Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.
We commit to Be Brave and Make Change.
We will be a voice for generations.

Last year we were nominated for a National Reconciliation Award for the work we are doing in teaching Indigenous learning perspectives and pedagogy, along with our Reconciliation Walk. It was interesting to meet prospective parents this week on our Open Day who all said this is a key area they are interested in.
This year our Reconciliation Walk is getting bigger! We have two schools start times: 10am and 11am, followed by a 12pm start for the community.
Are you able to volunteer from 9:30-12 or 12-2:30? We need an adult on each station to assist the students (12), plus some helpers to set up and pack up.
We need lots of parent helpers

Today we celebrated our amazing support staff: Emma and Al in the P/1 room, Eloise in the 2/3/4 room, and Kahu and Patsy in the 5-6 room, along with Kitty in the office. Everyone received a wonderful present and card with heartfelt thanks for all the amazing work they do for all our students. Staff celebrated with a lovely morning tea!
Our Open Day was a great success. We had a wonderful morning showing lots of families around our wonderful school. Thanks to our wonderful 5-6 class who all participated by leading tours and answering questions as well as sharing what they love about our school. All of our visitors remarked about how confident, friendly and polite our students are, and how much pride they showed in our school.

Muesli Bars can be purchased. Distribution will start when we have enough customers, hopefully next week, so get your orders in! You can bring in up to $5 and then your child can get a muesli bar each day from the Green Team at recess at the Outdoor Kitchen. Please bring cash to the office. We will have vegan and gluten free option available very soon!
Every lunchtime students are enthusiastically gathering sticks, leaves and other supplies to build and extend their unique bush cubbies. Most of the cubbies are being created with friends so there is plenty of discussion, solutions, and teamwork out on show. After a few early disagreements about ownership, it appears the cubby area has become a very respectful and engaging space for all the students. As a lover of all things visual, it is rewarding for me to see the creativity and attention the students are all putting into designing their cubbies and associated areas. Another of the many positives that I am witnessing with the cubbies is the willing support the older students are providing to the younger students. If you have time, why not ask you child to show you our growing cubby space.

On Wednesday (15th May), Quincy, Freda and Eidi represented Chewton PS by attending Mt Alexander's Student Ideas Workshop. They met with other local schools and collaborated on ideas that could be implemented into our local areas for young people. They were introduced to 'Big Idea Planning' and presented their big idea with an 'Elevator Pitch' to the mayor. They also had a walk through the chamber building and a tour of the Mayor's office. It was a fantastic experience and the day was thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks Kahu!
We cooked blueberry cupcakes with Josie and Sue. We had afternoon tea with our mums and our grandmas and dads and grandpas. Some even came Geelong and Swan Hill to see us! Oscar and Lila did a great speech to welcome everyone. Lila did the Acknowledgement to Country. We showed our writing books, gave a gift and shared some yummy food.
