Newsletter 9th May 2024
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.
We commit to Be Brave and Make Change.
We will be a voice for generations.
Now, more than ever
(April-July)Misty mornings and cool rainy days.
Knorre Knorre (wombats) emerge when there is sun and eat the new shoots of grasses.
Goonang-a (lyrebirds) perform courting dances.
Kombadik (tree fern shoots) are eaten.
Days are short and nights are long.
The constellation of Yerrer Det Kurrk (Sagittarius) rises in the southeast after sunset, indicating the mid point of cold weather.
Djinup (cockatoos) are noisy and seen flying high and low.
With thanks to Aunty Julie and Nalderun

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
• Walking with them the whole way to school
• If they get the bus, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
• If you must drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way
Every child who walks to school on Friday May 10 will receive a certificate.
The green team is a new group of students that are working on having a healthy school, reducing waste, reducing soft plastics and reducing energy consumption and water use.💡

We will be hosting an Open Day on the 15th May for prospective families, please share the info with any friends or neighbours who may be interested.
The hoodies are currently being embroidered with our new logo and will be sent off to the screen printers as soon as they arrive from the uniform company. We are hoping they will be ready to go home with students early to mid June.

We loved our new fire pit! On Monday all the school gathered together and lit a fire. We ate our lunch and then went off to work on our cubbies! Thanks so much to everyone who made this beautiful space!
