Newsletter 26th April 2024
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.
We commit to Be Brave and Make Change.
We will be a voice for generations.
Now, more than ever
(April-July)Misty mornings and cool rainy days.
Knorre Knorre (wombats) emerge when there is sun and eat the new shoots of grasses.
Goonang-a (lyrebirds) perform courting dances.
Kombadik (tree fern shoots) are eaten.
Days are short and nights are long.
The constellation of Yerrer Det Kurrk (Sagittarius) rises in the southeast after sunset, indicating the mid point of cold weather.
Djinup (cockatoos) are noisy and seen flying high and low.
With thanks to Aunty Julie and Nalderun

We are going to revamp our outdoor fire pit area, directly behind the school. We would like to chop up some wood to make seating, securely attach it in place around our fire pit and build a path from the back gate to the area. We are keen to make better use of this space for outdoor fires, learning and having a yarn.
Materials needed:
· Chainsaw,
· 4wd with winch or strap to tow logs
· Rio, boring pieces, auger bit
· 8-10 people
· Picks
· Shovels
· Rakes
· Wheelbarrows/ shovels to move mulch for pathway
Cubby season has begun! We met as a whole school to look at suggestions about how to improve our cubby experience and have reached agreements on how cubbies will work this year. Congratulations to everyone for showing our school values of Respect, Kindness and Community to listen to others, negotiate, be fair and inclusive of others.

As Anzac Day is a public holiday, we went to the Memorial Park on Wednesday 24th April to pay our respects. Students read their reflections on ANZAC day and on the impact of war. We remembered the people who fought in World War 1 and in all wars. Our school captains laid flowers by the flag, we had a minute silence and hung our reflections on the fence. We hope you have a chance to stop and read them over the next week.
