Newsletter 18th April 2024
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.
We commit to Be Brave and Make Change.
We will be a voice for generations.
Now, more than ever
(April-July)Misty mornings and cool rainy days.
Knorre Knorre (wombats) emerge when there is sun and eat the new shoots of grasses.
Goonang-a (lyrebirds) perform courting dances.
Kombadik (tree fern shoots) are eaten.
Days are short and nights are long.
The constellation of Yerrer Det Kurrk (Sagittarius) rises in the southeast after sunset, indicating the mid point of cold weather.
Djinup (cockatoos) are noisy and seen flying high and low.
With thanks to Aunty Julie and Nalderun

We are going to revamp our outdoor fire pit area, directly behind the school. We would like to chop up some wood to make seating, securely attach it in place around our fire pit and build a path from the back gate to the area. We are keen to make better use of this space for outdoor fires, learning and having a yarn. Other jobs are building the new compost bays and rebuilding the garden beds!
We are all very excited that Cubby Season is here again! We have had two whole school meetings to discuss suggestions for cubbies this year. Kath Coff will come and talk to the students about Caring for Country and each other, and our expected behaviour matrix clearly shows how we will show our school values of Community, Kindness and Respect!
Planning is underway for our 2024 Reconciliation Walk on 31st May. If you are able to assist, please see Bernadette or Bethia.
We will have staggered starts this year as we anticipate a lot of schools to join us, along with more community members.
We need lots of parent helpers
setting up the story boards
helping on each storyboard station

packing up/ taking down the story boards
Congratulations on P-1 reaching their 100 Values Card class milestone!
Congratulations to Arnie for receiving his Individual certificate.

Thank you to those who have paid the 2024 Voluntary Contributions. This funding allows us to provide a rich variety of programs and materials for children to learn with.
If you are able to contribute, payments can be made through Compass, direct deposit or cash to the office. Payment plans are available through compass.
A big thank you to everyone who purchased spring bulbs through our fundraiser. We raised $339.60 .
This term we have a lot of excursions that mostly fall on Fridays. For safety reasons and community visibility, it is required that students wear full school uniform on excursions (this includes jumpers/jackets). If your child has an excursion on a Friday, they are welcome to wear casual clothes on the Thursday that week instead.
We have extended the order window for Year 5/6 Hoodies. Extra forms will be sent home today to those who are yet to place an order. Please return them by next Monday the 22nd to ensure your child does not miss out if they'd like to order. We are hoping the hoodies will be ready to distribute to students by beginning of June. Below is a mock up of what the hoodies will look like. The artwork encompasses the vision of two students whose designs were voted on by the Year 5/6 class. Well done to Tyrone and Quincy SP on their thoughtful designs.
A big thank you to the Castlemaine Lions Club for their donation of $2000. Marie and Barbara visited us today to present the cheque to our School Captains and Vice Captain.
We have been exploring poetry in reading and writing in 2-3-4 this week. Here are the students' Haiku poems.
