Use of school outside school times
We are very sad to let you know that there was some damage to our sheds last weekend, which has been reported to the police. Please make sure that if your child wants to use the playground outside school times that a parent or grandparent is with them at all times.
For the remainder of the term we are focusing on the Keys to Communication: How to get someone's attention, using talking voice, face and body, using kind words and redoing hurtful moments.
This time of year is such a busy one for all our families. We have so much to do in the lead up to Christmas, our children are tired and it can be easy to be grumpy with each other, or just to let things go.
At school we are focusing on good communicaiton skills. Feel free to use these at home. If you would like a printed copy let us know and we will be happy to provide this
We were so excited to welcome our new 2024 preps for their first Transition session this week. A big thanks to all our amazing P-1-2 students who were such great helpers! Next week we will meet our big buddies and do a buddy activity together. Welcome to Nina, Bonnie, Toshi, Ennis, Helen, Atticus and Jack!
Life Education Van: Being Safe online
Thanks to Heather for organising a visit to CSC for Grade 6 students to try out some instruments on offer at CSC! We had a fantastic time!
Thanks to Miki for organising a fantastic Athletics Day.
Students participated in Hurdels, Shotput, Long Jump, Relays, Longest Throw and Hula hoops. congratulations to yarram yarram House (yellow), who won the day! Well done to all our students whoall participated with great team spirit!
Thank you for the magnificent 150th celebrations that you and your whole team organised. As a past student, I really enjoyed the enthusiasm of the present students, and felt that Chewton PS can confidently look forward to another 150 years of support from its community.
The thought that went into the displays that were set up was appreciated - I have rarely seen such a comprehensive collection of school photos going back almost to the beginnings of photography itself. The school rolls were equally amazing, and I think we all enjoyed finding the records of ourselves when we were enrolled, all inscribed in the beautiful copperplate handwriting that was the standard of the day. The work that the students had put into their displays speaks well of their presentation skills and the pride that they had taken in sharing their knowledge was obvious - big pats on the back all round!
It was good to see that things have changed a great deal from the days when I attended the school (1956-1962) and even more from when my mother Edna (Scoles) Preece attended the school (1929-1938). It’s now a beautiful space for 21st century learning, but allowing the heritage of the sturdy old building to remain.
Please pass on my heart-felt thanks to your roaming photographer (John, I think) who took one of the best photos I’ve ever seen of my sister Alison, my mother Edna and me (Linda) in front of the Old Castlemaine Schoolboys Association honour board. He did an amazing job of capturing former (not old!) students and taking down their details in a coherent fashion.
I look forward to visiting again and keeping that connection strong. With many, many thanks,
Linda (nee Preece) Stanford
Each year we give a present to another person at school. All staff and students take part. On 1st December names are selected randomly by our Secret Santa maestros Eloise and Kahu.
Your child will come home with the name of the person they are buying a present for. Our limit is $10. During December we also make sure we go out of our way to do kind things for our Secret Santa, without giving away our identity! Presents come to school by Monday 11th December and are given out at our end of year picnic on Thursday 14th December!
