Newsletter 2nd November 2023
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.

Wendy, Tom and Millie were delighted to find John and Margaret Ebbert's 11 children in the Student record book at our 150th celebration. John was the manager of the Garfield Waterwheel and mayor of Chewton and is Millie and Tom's great great great grandfather.
One of John and Margaret 's children, Gertrude, went to school with George Docking and they later married. One of their children Ethel, had five boys, one of whom is Gil, who is MIllie and Tom's grandpa! What a great connection Chewton Primary School is!
Our student council have been busy problem solving and thinking of ways to improve our school. After a safety inspection of the plaground equipment, student council came up with a number of suggestions: the flying fox needed to be repaired, the climbing wall needs to be reconfigured and the shade sail has a hole in it. Lila wrote to Rob who has promptly repaired the Flying Fox and children are happily using it this week! The shade sails have been repaired by the company who installed our new sails, and the students are investigating how the climbing wall can be changed. Congratulations to our playground group: Lila, Arnie and Oscar.
Our gaga group have found a space to build the gaga pit ( semi enclosed wooden structure for a ball game called gaga), measured the materials needed and this week will call the hardward to find out about pricing. We need some parents to help construct it too! Well done Cooper and Jai!
Our gymnastics group Sully, Eidi, Ginger and Emilia have investigated and are ordering some new gym mats for summer use. Great work!
Next projects: Ginger, Freda, Sully and Jai will investigate the climbing wall holds; Cooper is investigating repairs to our basketball backboards and baskets; Tenzin is looking at the outdoor kitchen area and Freda is investigating a mosaic on the concrete in the 5-6 area.

The Consumer Deposit Scheme started on 1st November.
You can support Chewton Primary School by nominating us as the recipient of your donated containers. The servo is also nominating community groups as recipients of additional containers each week.
You need to sort your containers as much as possible: plastic bottles, aluminium, glass, liquid paper (Primas etc). Do not crush the cans. Containers should be empty but lids on are fine.
The containers are located behind the Servo, so look out for signs.
Be patient while the new system is being set up.
Our school will have an account set up so you can donate your containers to us! Make sure you let them know it is for Chewton Primary.
