Newsletter 19th October 2023
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.

What an amazing weekend of celebrations we have had: our biannual production, Chewtopia, followed by our celebration of 150 years of Chewton Primary School 1054!
It has been an incredible effort from staff, students, parents and community members to bring these two events to fruition and I thank everyone who took time to help in any way. It is a celebration of our special community.

October is ADHD month, a time for spreading truth, understanding, and support.
It is also time to focus on the amazing people with ADHD in our lives.
Current understandings of ADHD are constantly evolving – with new research, personal experiences, and conversations.
I have ADHD and you can ask me questions about it!
Each week throughout October we will have a celebrity spotlight on ADHD role models we love. This week is….
DAV PILKEY
Creator of the Captain Underpants and Dog Man series, author and cartoonist Dav Pilkey was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia as a child. Pilkey says ADHD “helped me to write stories that were not boring, and my dyslexia helped me too. It helped me to choose my words very, very carefully.”
“I think one of the reasons why Captain Underpants has resonated with so many children is because of the two boys that star in the books, George and Harold,” “They’re always using their imagination… That’s kind of an attainable superpower that we can all have.”
As a child, Pilkey’s hyperactivity got him in trouble a lot at school: “My teacher would just point to the classroom door and say, ‘Mr. Pilkey, out!,’ and I’d have to go sit out in the hallway.” But he used that time to work on his drawing and storytelling. He created Captain Underpants and Dog Man in second grade!
