Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

Dear parents and carers, the CFA will be holding a big training event at the school next Thursday evening from 7pm. There will be lights, noise and lots of vehicles. It is a training session.
This week Kath Coff came to work with all of us. We love building cubbies in term 2 and 3 and last week there were some disagreements. Kath came in to talk to us about Bunjil's Teaching, The three learnings are: Care for Country, Care for Others, Care for Self. We discussed how this might work in the way we collect materials, share our materials and work together. Rather than amassing large collections of sap or pine cones, we are trialling trading materials with each other. The grade 3-4-5s are even looking at trading skills. It is good to remember that we are lucky to be on Country, learning about Country and learning to work and play together. Thanks Kath! We look forward to seeing you at our Reconciliation Walk! Bunjil's Teaching is the first learning stop on the walk.
Thanks to everyone who has helped with the Market Stall: bringing in produce, baking and making. We made $300 which was amazing. Lots of people stopped to chat about our wonderful little school. We are hoping we get to do this regularly to get our name out into the community!
We had a fantastic Open Day this week to showcase our lovely school. There was a large amount of interest with our Grade 5-6 students taking families through our renovated building and lovely grounds. If you know anyone who has a child looking to start school in 2024, please ask them to book a tour now before we are fully booked!
This year we have been asked byKath Coff and Nalderun to expand our walk to include other schools and the broader community. We are very proud to grow the walk and would love lots of people to join us.
As the walk involves people taking time at each stopping point, we have decided to do two walks, our main one on Thursday 1st June at 10am and a second one on Friday 2nd June. The events will be ticketed for non school community members with a 200 person limit.
Lots of people are putting their name down to help out. We need 8-10 parent helpers on each day to assist. If you participated last year and wish to help out this year at the same storyboard, please let Bernadette know. You may be able to help on one day but not both: no problem, just put your name down! We still need four people for each day, plus lots of families walking!
Estimated time Thursday 9:30am-12:30pm
Estimated time on Friday 9:30am-12:30pm
Would you like to be part of the planning group? Join us Monday at 10am and/or Wednesday at 10am to assist.
Things needed:
3-4 tvs that have a usb port (Eaglehawk Recycling Centre are helping us out with these!)
fire drum
leaves and wood for fire: we need someone to collect these.
cars or portable power with plug in power source for tvs . Last year we used 3 utes- we have 2 confirmed but would love to hear from someone with a battery and inverter.
So far we have Elphinstone, Newstead and Castlemaine Secondary College sending students, with lots of interest from community members!
We have been nominated for a National Reconciliation Australia award!
We have 38 responses so far from parents and carers. It would be great to get another 30! It's not too late to fill out the survey. Look in Sentral for the link. Survey finishes Monday 22nd May 9am.
We still need more students for this to go ahead. Please contact Bernadette or Mikaela asap if you are interested in this: MOnday-Friday before school
Mon, Wed, Friday after school.
Please contact Mikaela asap on Mikaela Smith <EduCareFDC@outlook.com> if you have not yet responded to the survey.
Last Friday, Preps, Year Ones and Twos enjoyed a Tabloid Sports Day at the Wesley Hill oval. Students from local schools participated in a variety of games including tail tiggy, parachute activities and snowball tag. It was a great day for meeting new friends, team building and having fun.
Have you put your name down to help yet? We have a fundraising target of $6,500 to help run our sustainability program.
4-5 people needed. Meetings: Wednesday 7th June 10am, Wednesday 14th June 10am in the staffroom
Suggested things to organise include:
parade from the oval to the school, led by the Castlemaine Pipe band
Welcome to Country
invitations and publicity
stalls
set up for history display
costumes for children

In Term 3 our Inquiry will be History focused and students will showcase their learning on the day
