TERM OVERVIEW
We are beginning to read, write and spell more complex letter combinations, spelling patterns and common words through the SMART Foundation program.
We encourage the students to continue to 'have-a-go' during writing sessions. Students will be encouraged to write sentences independently using known common words and spelling patterns. We continue to focus on building sound and letter knowledge, using full stops and capital letters appropriately.
This term the students will be introduced to dotted thirds paper and taught the correct formation and line placement of letters. Part of this process will be the development of the correct pencil grip to assist students with the writing process.
This term we will be revising, reinforcing and extending the concepts and skills introduced throughout Terms 1-3 that cover the three strands in the Victorian Curriculum: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
The children will be encouraged to make practical application of their number knowledge so as to solve problems relating to their everyday lives.
This term we will be investigating the physical sciences area of movement through the way different objects and modes of transport move.
Through hands-on opportunities and investigations, the students will:
develop an understanding of how and why some objects move, and how they can make objects move
explore whether size, shape and surface are factors in the way an object moves
explore the push and pull forces they can use to move objects e.g. spinning, bouncing, rolling etc
observe, gather evidence and make comparisons about moving objects.
A reminder from our newsletter (2023.06.23)
Currently, we issue reports at the end of Semester 1 (in term 2) and Semester 2 (in term 4).
We also publish them on Compass as digital documents by 4pm on the day they go home.
As agreed upon at School Council on Tuesday this week, and as an environmentally responsible school, this Semester 1 report will be the last time we provide all students with a hard copy report.
In acknowledgement of the preference for a hard copy report, we will still provide paper reports to those parents/guardians who request them. All you will need to do is email your classroom teacher to let them know this is what you would like.
For further information regarding how to access your child/ren's reports (from as far back as Semester 2017) please go HERE.
Student reflections will continue to come home as a hard copy in an envelope.
