It is with great sadness that we announce that Kylie will be moving on from EPS at the conclusion of this Term. Kylie has been with us since day 1 and has worked tirelessly to support students across the school.
Kylie will be trying her hand at an entirely new career and I’m sure you will join me in farewelling her and wishing her the best of luck in this endeavour. She will be greatly missed as a friend, colleague and as a mentor to our students but we are better for the time in which she spent with us.
On behalf of the EPS community, I would personally like to extend my gratitude to Kylie. I know she will achieve great things on this new path.
It is with great pride and satisfaction that we announce our School Captains for 2022, Summer Macleod and Cruz Tardrew, in addition to our Vice Captains, Ella Francis and Lewis Blaikie.
Summer, Cruz, Ella and Lewis ere selected after a lengthy process that involved a written application, presentation to their peers and an election process. Over 20 students participated in this process and while some may be disappointed, each should be incredibly proud of their efforts. I know I speak for everyone here at EPS when I say that that is most certainly the case for our broader community.
Our School Captains and Vice Captains will soon take the lead on our Junior School Council and have already began planning initiatives that will improve the school experience for each of our students. The way they have attacked their responsibilities already bodes incredibly well for what lies ahead.
Please join us in congratulating Summer, Cruz, Ella and Lewis.

We are pleased to announce that after our most recent nomination and election process, the EPS school council is once again fully staffed and ready for the job of overseeing school governance.
We would like to welcome Lauren Randalls, Greg Kerr, Tamara Watkins and Tracy Whitaker to the team in 2022. They will join our incumbent parent representatives, Ebbie Hungerford and Kylie Barbieri. Our staff representatives are Angela Campillos (incumbent) and Dominique Wilcox.
Congratulations to all. We are looking forward to another successful year working in partnership to serve our community.
Recently, all government schools received communication directly from DET that Professional Practice Days (PPDs) will be reinstated for teachers as part of the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA).
PPDs have been in effect over the course of the past agreement. A PPD requires teachers to be released from teaching duties for up to 1 day per term so that they can work on the Curriculum, Planning, Assessment and administrative work required. At EPS, we have previously done this by releasing entire teams on a specified day and seeking CRT coverage to ensure continuity of learning for the students affected.
As some of you may be aware, a number of factors (including the lingering effects of COVID-19 lockdowns on teacher graduate rates, as well as overall demand for CRTs due to illness) have resulted in a severe shortage of available CRTs for substitute purposes and, overall, teachers to fill classroom teacher positions. While we have our full compliment of teachers employed, many other schools have not been so lucky and continue to operate significantly understaffed (we have not been so lucky with CRTs and often struggle to find one).
As a result, DET has taken a step to alleviate these pressures whilst maintaining adherence to the VGSA by directing schools to choose one day in Term 2 to act as a PPD for all teaching staff. On this day, students would not be required at school but care would need to be made available through a school’s OSHC provider.
In accordance with this direction, we have chosen Monday, May 9 as our whole school Professional Practice Day. Students are not to attend school on this day (unless accessing OSHC).
Towards the end of Term one students from year 5/6C (Lachlan, Jade, Cooper, Haylie, Asha) organised for the school to begin a Nude Food Day. Nude Food Day takes place every Tuesday and is where students are encouraged to bring in food without wrappers or with limited packaging/plastic wrapping. This initiative was set up in the hopes to reduce the amount of waste both in our school and in their environment, and to promote awareness of the impact of plastic on our environment.
It has already been fantastic to see students bringing in their nude food and students in year 5/6 cannot wait to see this continue for the remainder of the year!
Impact of waste on the environment
Plastic can be very harmful to our environment in many ways.
Do you know that some turtles mistake plastic bags as jelly fish and eat them, causing them to become very sick?
Australia was once one of the best countries at recycling, however, we are now falling behind in our use of reducing, recycling, and reusing.
Our Earth now has a lot of pollution because of the amount of plastics we humans produce and use when we don’t really need to.
Every little bit helps.

Canteen Update:
We’re pleased to announce that commencing this Friday 4th March, we will be selling items classified as sometimes food under the Healthy Eating Guide. These will be sold out of our canteen at lunchtime on Wednesday and Friday.
We are still in our agreement with H&H to provide/deliver food to our students each Tuesday. Orders can be made via QuickCliq and need to be made by 2pm on the preceding Monday for Tuesday delivery. QuickCliq details can be found towards the end of this newsletter.
Tuesdays - Lunch Orders through H&H
Wednesdays - EPS Canteen
Thursdays - Subway
Fridays - EPS Canteen
Please note, in Term 2, the lunch order service through H&H will resume on Monday, May 2 (week 2).
Compass:
A reminder that we use Compass as our primary form of communication with parents and families. If you have not yet signed on to Compass and need assistance in doing so, please contact the office.
Eynesbury Primary School Mobile Phone Policy
A reminder that under Department of Education regulations, mobile phones are not permitted at school. If students bring a mobile phone to school, they must submit the device to the office where it will be kept securely until the end of the school day. Please also note that ‘smart’ watches must have internet functionality switched off during the school day.
Bikes at Eynesbury Primary School
It’s been wonderful to see the number of students riding their bikes and scooters to school and using our bike shed facilities. If your child intends to ride to school, please ensure that they are equipped with a bike lock. While the gates are locked during the day, a bike lock adds another necessary level of safety and security. Most importantly, please continue to speak to your children about bike safety including wearing a helmet, crossing at designated crossings, being mindful of pedestrians by walking their bikes through foot traffic and generally being aware of road conditions.
CSEF APPLICATIONS
If you have a current Health Care Card, please speak to the office to see if you are eligible for support through CSEF. As previous applications made at other schools are not transferred year-to-year, please also see us if you need your application renewed.
