Chewton Primary School is situated on Jaara Jaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

This week your child learned Kimochis® Key 3. This Key helps your child to maintain a positive facial expression (Talking Face) and body language (Talking Body) when experiencing upset emotions and conflicts. Your child learned that a Fighting Face and Body can often make things worse. When your child can keep his/her face and body from looking aggressive or hurtful, others will be more willing to listen. Your child learned how to notice and read the facial expressions and body language of others as a way to understand the emotion behind the words.
Family Challenge: Have a family discussion at mealtime and choose a situation that you could each practice using a Talking Face instead of a Fighting Face. Ask family members to give one another positive feedback for efforts made to not yell or use facial expressions and body language that are not helpful.
To use a Talking Face: Relaxed eyes, brow, mouth that convey respect and self-control
After the first Kimochis session this week I observed the Prep-2 children using their talking faces, and talking voices as they played in the sandpit. Well done Prep-2 children.
Camping or staying in a hotel? by Eidel
I think that camping is better than staying in a hotel.
Firstly, when you are camping you don’t have to pay most of the time. There are a lot of campsites that are free and you can go to a national park to stay for a small fee. Yes, that's right. Staying in a hotel costs so much more than camping does.
In addition, camping is very peaceful, and a lot of people like the sounds of nature, for example, the birds singing and the leaves rustling. There is also the fact that you can have a campfire and look at the stars.
Finally, instead of being stuck in a tiny room in a city or a town, as you would in a hotel, you can camp at a desert and see amazing animals, or you could stay by a river and do kayaking, or a mountain so you could climb it, or you could stay in the bush or forest and go bushwalking. There is so much more fun and activities when you are camping!
In conclusion, camping is so much better than staying in a hot, stuffy hotel room!
I strongly feel that camping is much better than staying in an expensive hotel.
Firstly, camping is mostly free and how much does a hotel cost again? Hmmm, let me think. Maybe a few thousand dollars? Think of all the activities that you can do. Bushwalking, climbing, swimming.
Secondly, there's so much nature surrounding you while you're camping. Like birds singing, frogs and all sorts of other things.
Finally, hotels have limited space and camping has all the space you could need. Plus what can you do in hotels? Just walk from room to room and be bored. Yeah. Really fun.
In conclusion, from my argument I am sure you'll agree that camping is the better option and if you are still for a hotel then you can go on and waste your money!
I strongly agree that camping is better than staying in a hotel. Firstly, when you camp you don't have to spend $1000 dollars and if you don't like the idea of sleeping on the ground, then why don't you sleep in a caravan?
Secondly, you get to hear beautiful sounds from the lovely sound of the waves to the exquisite sound of an owl hooting in the night. The animals you can see: koalas, quokkas, anteaters.
Finally, hotels use a tone of electricity and that means a tone of burning coal. When you camp you simpley can just light a fire and bam, you have eco-friendly light!
In conclusion, I really think that camping is better than staying in a hotel and I hope I persuade you to believe me.
We will have a whole school community activity for Friday 3rd June
We will have more information next week, but please keep the day free and invite your extended family to be part of our school community activity.
We will need lots of parent/family helpers on the day. Please let us know if you are available to help.

Next week students will have articles ready for the newsletter.
All classes discussed cubbies earlier in the week and then the House Captains met and formulated a whole school agreement. Today at a whole school cubby meeting, the house captains presented the agreement and answered questions. They dismantled last year's cubbies, set up boundary markers and were great leaders. Cubbies were enthusiastically underway at lunchtime today.
The principals in the Mount Alexander Network work closely together to improve the learning outcomes of every child at our schools.
We encourage parents of 2023 prep students, to visit your neighbourhood school on our Open Day, Wednesday 25th May. Kindergartens and child care centres have received our fliers with contact details for each school. Most schools are open from 9:30-11am for school tours on this day. We ask parents to visit your neighbourhood school before looking at other schools, because we know that your neighbourhood school is a great school. Your neighbourhood school (local school) is your closest school. You can find your neighbourhood school at
As a parent, you can be confident that your child will learn the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship.
Teachers across our schools use evidence based best practice to provide high quality literacy and numeracy programs. All schools offer a range of specialist programs including a Language other than English.
Sometimes parents worry about their kinder child attending a different school to their kinder friends. We know that children make friends very quickly at this age and building connections with your local community assists with wellbeing for both children and families. Students can walk or ride to school, get to know their neighbours and be sustainable!
Every Victorian student has a legislated right to enrol at their designated neighbourhood government school (local school). A student’s designated neighbourhood school is generally the school that is nearest the student’s permanent address as determined by the school zone. The Find My School website provides guidance on which school zone a student’s permanent residence is located within.
