Chewton Primary School is situated on Jaara Jaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
Be brave. Make Change.

A big thank you to Graeme Challis for filling in during Term 1!
There are lots of happy students and staff returning to school this term with the mask mandates being removed. It will certainly reduce frustrations and also our landfill! Vaccination requirements for visitors have also been relaxed. Parents are welcome onsite and do not have to show vaccination status to enter buildings or school grounds. Volunteers who work closely with children will still need to be vaccinated.
We would love to see parents and carers returning to help us in our classrooms and our garden. If you have some spare time, please come on in!
Mondays: catch up at the flags first thing
Friday mornings: garden club for any available parents and family members
Friday afternoon: Whole School Assembly. Come and join us: 3:15 at the Outdoor stage
This term in Sustainability we are focusing on reducing our waste. Grade 3-4 are leading the work across the school. The largest volume of waste is single use plastics. While we are able to recycle them, it would be great to limit their use. You may have noticed we have removed our landfill bins from the playground. We do have a general recycling bin, a soft plastics and a compost bin outside. We have noticed that when people use the school on the weekend they can leave landfill in our recycling bin. We ask that if you use the school out of hours, can you please take all your waste home? Our waste target is to have our landfill waste at below 0.3 cubic metres per student per year. Look out for student work regarding our efforts!
There have been reports of head lice at school. Could parents please check their children's hair and treat if necessary.
Please promote our lovely school in the community. Let parents with young children know they can come to look at our wonderful school on 25th May.
Mt Alexander principals are all working together to encourage families to be at their neighbourhood schools.
School Council has approved the formation of a WhatsApp group for our school. The purpose is to give a quick call out for volunteers or helpers for particular tasks. It will not replace Sentral or email as our main means of messaging, but will make it easier for small tasks or reminders. Please note that your phone number is displayed if you are not a contact on the recipient’s list, but your name is not identified. The terms of reference were emailed to families this week. The school mobile will be used for the WhatsApp number. If you would like to be part of the group, please contact the school. This app is only available for parents and carers with students at Chewton Primary School.
On Thursday a group of parents met to discuss a whole school community activity for Friday 3rd June
We will have more information next week, but please keep the day free and invite your extended family to be part of our school community activity.
We will need lots of parent/family helpers on the day. Please let us know if you are available to help.
