Chewton Primary School is situated on Jaara Jaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

It has been a very busy term for staff with work for our School Review. It is wonderful to see students setting themselves challenges and really focusing on achieving their goals. On Wednesday the panel meet again to set our next strategic plan and goals for us to work towards over the next four years.
Last year a group of parents took part in two, two hour cultural reflection sessions with John Bonnice. The group will meet again next Tuesday at 6:30pm to talk about our next steps towards unpacking cultural bias and extending our work in making Chewton a safe and inclusive place to learn. If you were not part of the original group but would like to participate, please contact Bernadette.
Well done to all our students in the Cross Country today. Everyone participated and tried their best. Students supported each other to complete the course and we had some outstanding achievers who will go on to compete at Regional level. Congratulations!

School Council has approved the formation of a WhatsApp group for parents and carers of our school community. The purpose of the group is to request volunteers and assistance for the school. The school will use the WhatsApp group for reminders that require parent volunteers. Parents and carers will receive an email with details on how to join the group.
Sentral is our main means of communication. If you have not downloaded the Sentral app please make sure you do as it will be the main means of permission for excursions, contains the parent calendar. Contact the office if you have any difficulties.
Projects we are working on include:
organising a volleyball team to enter a competition next term
Investigating a school pet
Buying new soccer goals
Building a gaga pit (see example below)
Congratulations to Frankie A who rang the pet supply shop and asked lots of questions to find out what guinea pigs need to eat!
Students in all classes have been learning about the many cultures that make up our school, local and global community. Emilia shared her project about Italy with her class this week.
We started Keys to Communication this week. Please take the time to read how we are teaching positive communication skills. We will have a parent information session early next term to look at Wellbeing and share the work we are doing to support social and emotional learning. It would be wonderful if you chat to your child about the Kimochis characters and what the Key is each week.
In some cultures eye contact can be rude and socially unacceptable and side by side communication is preferred.
Eye contact may be hard for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)., as it can be quite uncomfortable. We do not force eye contact, but teach as a tool for communication.
Opening: 4:30pm Saturday 2nd April
