On Monday we celebrated Harmony Day. This term our whole school Inquiry focus is Intercultural capabilities . Students are investigating a range of cultures, including their own culture , cultures in our community and choosing a cultural event to research.
We wore orange on Harmony Day. We did activities. I liked when Oscar's mum taught us about Vikings. Sometimes they weren't actually called Vikings. Rudy
We were catching balls. I liked throwing balls with Archie. Arnie
I liked it when we did the flags. We coloured in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. We did it with Tyrone's mum Bethia. The colours on the Aboriginal flag mean earth, people and sun. The land is green, the blue is water. The black is the people. There is a headdress. Miro
Student led activities included a collage of a giant earth to represent Many people, One earth. and games from different cultures.
Ingrid shared some Viking culture with students and Bethia helped students to make Flags supplied by Aunty Kerri. Thanks for coming!
Yesterday was our Fieldwork Day. the panel met with groups of students, teachers, leaders and parents to investigate what we do well and what our next steps will be for school improvement. It was a great opportunity to have wide ranging discussions. Thanks to our amazing staff for all the work they have done in preparation for this. Thanks to the parents and carers who were able to come to the parent focus group. Feedback from this group was that our school is a highly valued part of our community, and is a unique and special place to learn.
On April 6th the panel will come together again to review the report compiled from the school data and fieldwork day and we will formulate goals for the next Strategic Plan.
With the cooler weather we are noticing children coming in an assortment of jumpers. Please ensure your child is wearing correct school uniform.
We have a lot of second hand jumpers that are available for free. New uniforms are available for purchase.
Wearing school uniform is our school policy.
Grade 5/6 students and Prep students hard at work felting in Art this week! Please come and look at art work on display in the Art room.
We are starting Keys to Communication next week. Please take the time to read how we are teaching positive communication skills. We will have a parent information session early next term to look at Wellbeing and share the work we are doing to support social and emotional learning. It would be wonderful if you chat to your child about the Kimochis characters and what the Key is each week.
When we communicate with others
30% of the meaning they take is from our tone of voice
60% is from body language
10% is from the actual words we say
Our 2021 garden clubbers have taken on extra work commitments and we are in desperate need of more helpers. If you are free Monday or Friday morning after drop off, please come in and help for a little while. we would love to get the kids out into the garden to help but need some parent helpers to make this possible.
