Chewton Primary School is situated on Jaara Jaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

Last night the school picnic was well attended. We held it a little later as we were unsure at the beginning of the school year of how we would be impacted by the Omicron variant.
From Scott:
The school community really turned out last night for our school picnic. It was so pleasing to see familiar faces, new ones and past students.
Our school leaders did an amazing job of formalities in particular welcoming our special guest Aunty Kath who shared a teaching before participating in a cleansing ceremony, inviting us to break a leaf with intent and cast it into the fire, letting go of past negativity.
The post picnic soccer match is becoming somewhat of a tradition. It was great to see Warren and Lorenzo joining in. I’m a little sore today…
Thank you all who could make it last night, it highlighted for me how important ceremony, tradition and community is in our lives.
Student Highlights:
Jem There was a fire and Aunty Kath asked people to get a leaf and snap in half. The year has been hard, but this is a new year. Put love into the leaf, snap it in half and put it into the fire.
The teaching about Crow and the eagle: The micro- bat was trying to work things out. Waa the crow went into the fire and turned black. Bunjil the eagle stays up high and the crow stays low.
Harry The soccer match- it was fun with the adults joining in because they could kick it big. Lorenzo had a lot of soccer
Huge thanks to Aunty Kath for doing the Acknowledgement of Country and the Leaf Ceremony, which gave our school community the opportunity to let go of the last few difficult years and give love and joy for the future.
Wear orange on Monday 21st to celebrate our cultural diversity. Aunty Kerri has shared some resources and a number of parents are coming in to run events with our student leaders.
This term our Inquiry focus is Intercultural learning and students have been investigating cultural events, celebrations and traditions. Look out for student work in the next few weeks!
Some more pictures of our ceremony. We have some fantastic dancers in our school community!
As the number of parents nominating for position on school council in 2022 does not exceed the vacancies, it is not necessary to hold elections this year.
Congratulations to Jasja Van Andel and Purdy Buckle for continuing in their role and to Marian Read for taking up a position. The AGM will be held on Thursday 24th March at 6pm followed by the first meeting of our new council. I would like to thank outgoing members Lorenzo Veracini and Daydd Ryan for their contributions.
Thanks to Dan Nixon who has joined our Grounds and Buildings Sub committee. We need another parent to join this committee.
Next Wednesday we have our Review panel members coming in to work with students, staff and parents to assist in reviewing our work over the past four years and to see where our next steps might be.
We need 4-6 parents to be part of the parent focus group.
As yet we do not have any parents who have volunteered. The meeting time is 2:30-3:30.. Please get in touch via email if you would like to be part of this important work.
Terms of Reference for the panel to investigate on the day:
To what extent is data used to inform instructional practice?
To what extent do students have agency and voice in their learning?
To what extent is there consistency of approach to wellbeing across the school community?
