Congratulations to all our students who competed in our Swimming Carnival on Friday. Our School Captains Otis and Jem announced all the events and our House Captains, Alfie and Cody (Blue), Arkie and Sofia (Red), Aubrey and Georgia (Green), JoJo and Archie (Yellow) were fantastic at assisting their teams, helping students get to their events and leading the cheering with gusto!
Congratulations to Red House who came first in our Swimming Carnival!
Please take extra care on bikes and in cars before and after school. Bike riders are required to walk their bikes when in the school grounds, and cross the road carefully to ride along Hunter St if travelling east, and to walk bikes around the yellow marked space in the carpark before getting on bikes to ride west.
Our roads are narrow and with new footpaths installed on the main road extra care needs to be taken. In recent weeks there have been two incidents. Please take extra care if you are driving down the hill at Baker St as bike riders may be using the footpath. Please speak with your child about taking care when riding. If you have a student at high school please also speak with them about bike safety on the roads around the school.
Ride to school day is coming up and it would be great to see lots of bikes in action! Grade 3-6 students will be riding to the cross country event at Wesley Hill later in the term and will be going on a practice ride in coming weeks.
Chewton Primary is a Bushfire at Risk School with a level 2 rating.
On code red days we will be closed.
On days of extreme fire danger, we relocate to Castlemaine North Primary School.
In the case of an emergency, we may be directed by emergency services to shelter in place in the multipurpose building, evacuate to the Chewton Senior Citizens or evacuate to Victory Park.
Tomorrow we will have a fire drill to practice our evacuation procedure.
You will receive a text message from our school mobile phone.
Please respond “Yes” to let us know you have received the message.
If parents do not respond we will attempt to contact you via phone.
The policies and procedures are available on our school website. chewtonps.vic.edu.au
Whenever policies are updated they are placed on the website for you to read.
This year we will include information in the newsletter each month with a School council update.
This year we will have two vacancies on School Council, including the position of president. Being on the council is a really valuable way of contributing to our school and I strongly encourage you to consider being part of our council. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lorenzo Veracini for the outstanding contribution he has made to School Council over the past four years, and in particular as School Council President.
Chewton Primary School is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Our school community recognises the importance of, and a responsibility for, ensuring our school is a safe, supportive and enriching environment which respects and fosters the dignity and self-esteem of children and young people, and enables them to thrive in their learning and development. Staff undertake training each year on the Child Safe Standards. This year we will again include information in the newsletter each month explaining each of the standards. It is important that parents and carers read the information carefully. We take our responsibilities very seriously. School Council also has Child Safe training each year. Should anyone wish to discuss any matter relating to child safety, please contact the principal.
3-4 Incursion
Last week the Red Cross came to teach the grade 3-4 students about emergency preparation. Students received a pillowcase and decorated it with things to have ready in case of an emergency at home. It was great to hear that many children could talk about the fire plan their family has in place. If you haven’t got one, now is a good time to plan.
Hi all my name is Mikaela,
I have started as of term 1, twenty twenty-two at the Chewton Primary School running the BSC and ASC programs that are available to all students that attend Chewton Primary School.
BSC Monday to Friday 7am until 9am
ASC Monday Wednesday and Friday 3.30pm until 5.30pm
I offer permanent and casual bookings for both programs.
During the BSC program the children have the opportunity to have breakfast at the school and in the ASC program a light snack will be provided to the children.
I hold a qualification of Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and have been working locally in Castlemaine in Early Childhood Education and Care at a long day care service for the past 7 years.
During my time of service, I have fulfilled a Lead Educator role leading rooms and the BSC and ASC program within the service. I also fulfilled the role of the WH&S Representative for the workplace.
I am very excited to meet all the lovely families and children of the Chewton Primary School. Please feel welcome to come and introduce.

Hi, and thanks for your interest in music tuition at Chewton Primary School. Playing and studying music has been a big part of my life and I’m excited to be sharing my experience with students locally, and at my daughter's school, no less! I'm currently teaching acoustic guitar, ukulele, electric guitar, electric bass and drums/percussion at Castlemaine North Primary School with twenty students.
I would be happy to offer tuition in the following instruments:
acoustic guitar
ukulele
electric guitar
electric bass
drums/percussion
voice
brass
keyboard/synthesizer
electronic music
My lessons are in groups of up to three students (or two students for drums) with students grouped according to their skill level. Lessons are tailored for each group, each week to provide a nurturing environment where students can learn at their own pace. Practice notes are published on my website for students to access through the week - you can see my 2022 practice page for Castlemaine North at https://thehouseofandersen.com/front-gate/lessons/. I encourage parents and students to see what other students are also practicing!
My focus is on skills development earlier in the year and performing songs later in the year. I believe it is important for students to develop good technical habits early to facilitate performance and prevent having to unlearn bad habits - which is always much more difficult than learning the correct technique straight away.
Lessons are 30 minutes in duration and cost $30 per single lesson, or $250 for a term paid in advance.
Here is a bit more information about myself as a musician:
I’m a classically-trained vocalist and composer with a Masters degree and have played in bands for 30 years, on and off, here and there
I toured primary schools nationally with an original show about numbers, featuring electronic music and a computer-generated virtual sidekick
I’ve taught classroom music in high school, private lessons to children and adults and currently also tutor music at Castlemaine North PS
I’ve performed shows in almost every music genre [except dark metal or country and western, basically]
I present a radio programme on local station MAINfm [Tues 1pm] and a local music livestream on Facebook [Open Mic Castlemaine, Mon 7pm]
My favourite band when I was at high school was Queen. I had pictures of them all over my folder and my bag.
