Arts education is an important platform for students to thrive, express, create, collaborate, learn and excel. 

The Western NSW Dance Junior Ensemble is a selective ensemble program for Year 5 to Year 8 dancers from public schools across Western NSW. 

This ensemble is aimed at talented dance students with high technical skill and performance quality who wish to be involved in the choreographic process to create, learn and perform a dance work at the Western NSW Dance Festival. This ensemble will also audition to perform at the State Dance Festival.

The ensemble provides the opportunity for regional and rural students to collaborate, connect and participate with like-minded peers in various dance workshops led by professional dancers, choreographers and teachers.

Important information and how to get involved

How to apply

Interested students are required to have a parent/carer complete the Western NSW Dance Ensembles application form by Tuesday 19 March 2024 (Term 1 Week 8).

Following the close of applications, school principals will be contacted to endorse the participation of the nominating students.

All students who apply will attend the first rehearsal on Thursday 21 March 2024 (Term 1 Week 8) from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at Orange High School.

Following this rehearsal, the choreographers will nominate students for selection into the Ensemble for 2024.

Selected ensemble members must attend all subsequent rehearsal and performance dates.

Students will be notified of selection into the Ensemble by Friday 12 April 2024 (Term 1 Week 11).

Cost

A participation fee of $100 is required for each student selected into the Ensemble.  This fee will cover tuition, ensemble t-shirt and costume.

Students only attending the first rehearsal will not be required to make a payment.

Students will be required to pay this fee to their school upon acceptance into the Ensemble and schools will be debited for student participation.  Payment will be due by Friday 3 May 2024 (Term 2 Week 3).

Please advise the school you are paying for Western NSW Dance Ensemble 2024 when making payment.

Students may also be asked to supply accessories to go with their costume.

Workshop rehearsal dates

Ensemble members must be available for all of the following workshop rehearsal days:

Host venue for rehearsals:  Orange High School - Corner Woodward Street and Coronation Drive, Orange

Students must commit to the Ensemble and attend all scheduled rehearsals.

Students will at all times be supervised by Department of Education staff.

Western NSW Dance Festival

Students in the Ensemble must also be available to perform at the Western NSW Dance Festival to be held on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 June 2024 (Term 2 Week 6) at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.  

Ensemble members may also perform with their school in a school item at the festival if applicable.
