Waste and materials

Sustainability action process

Each day we use resources and materials and create waste. Some of these resources are limited or are renewed slowly. Our Earth has a limited capacity to absorb waste.

Many resources in our waste streams can be reused and manufactured into new products. We can all use resources more efficiently and dispose of them more sustainably through different behaviours and systems.

Sustainability action process

The sustainability action process provides a scaffold for teachers and students to investigate real issues and needs. It supports authentic problem solving through active student participation.

The sustainability action process has five steps:

  • make the case for change
  • explore options for action
  • develop the proposal for action
  • implement the proposal for action
  • reflect and evaluate.
