Do video games cause violence?

Video games have been a long topic of debate due to concerns about their possible impact on people, especially in relation to violent behaviour. Plenty of good reasons on both sides of the question of whether violence in video games is caused. Many studies and deep studies have recently thrown light on this subject giving a deeper understanding of the connection between violent video games and actual aggressiveness. The purpose of this article is to look at the data and go over the misconception that violent video games are entirely to blame

Does video games cause violence? What are video games? If you didn't know, video games are electronic games that involve interactions from the user from an input like a controller to generate visual feedback on the display screen. Video games are a source of entertainment which is very common in today's day and age. There is a discussion where video games cause violence personally i disagree with this, there are many reasons supporting my argument.

Similar to many countries, Australia has experienced worries about the possible effects of violent video games on people, especially young people. To make sure that the proper content warnings and age limits are in place, the Australian Government has created a strong classification system for video games through the Australian Classification Board. In the 21st century video games are a popular source of entertainment. According to a recent study 86% of people aged 15 to 21 said they have played video games at least once in their life in Australia.  A number of studies have tried to prove a link between playing violent video games and actual violence throughout the years.

The majority of these studies have been unable to find a clear connection between. The American Psychological Association did an in depth study in 2017 and found that there is not enough evidence to prove playing video games causes hostility in children or criminal violence. After studying more than one hundred and fifty study articles, this metaanalysis came to the conclusion that other factors, such as family environmental and mental health, had a greater effect on violent behaviour.

There is no current evidence proving that video games cause violence although there is an argument arguing for a negative effect on video games. The argument says that gaming can have a negative effect on young people over time. For example if a player ends up more aggressive or angry overtime this may cause more attitude, anger towards people or to video games. But this is not proven to be true although it is a common argument in fact this argument points into the opposite direction. It’s important to keep in mind that the great majority of people who play video games, even the violent ones, don't act violently. Playing video games may be fun, social and beneficial for the brain. It’s important to keep a balance between gaming and other activities, nevertheless, and to make sure that the right age limitations and parental advice are followed.
