This week, we distributed our Student Success Plans to teachers in preparation for Term 3. These goals reflect a deep understanding of each student's individual needs, strengths, and aspirations. By establishing clear and achievable objectives, educators have fostered supportive learning environments that empower students to take ownership of their educational journeys.
The purpose of our Student Success Plans is to support the collective journey of ensuring every child at Barrack Heights Public School is known, valued, and cared for. One of the most powerful ways we honour this vision is through our Student Success Plans. At BHPS, we know that working together with families is key to helping our students thrive. Our Success Plans are designed to support each child's learning by setting clear goals and strategies based on their individual needs. These plans guide students, educators, and families in working together to support academic progress, social development, and emotional well-being while tracking growth over time.
Thank you to all the parents for your support and commitment in creating goals for your children via our online School Bytes form.
To celebrate Education Week, we held a Grow Your Mind whole school BINGO challenge for our students. The lucky winners were 1/2 Wumbarra, who enjoyed a well-deserved hot chip party in the staffroom today!
Well done, 1/2 Wumbarra, you were quick to the BINGO call and certainly made the most of it today. Grow Your Mind
Barrack Heights PS got cosy for a cause today!
Perfect weather to stay in our PJs… and even better when it’s for something as special as Stewart House PJ Day. From fluffy slippers to superhero onesies, our classrooms were full of comfort, colour and community spirit.
While it’s a bit of fun for us to wear our jammies to school, the reason behind it is far more important. Stewart House provides an incredible opportunity for over 1,600 public school children each year, giving them 12 days of care, health and wellbeing support, and a safe place to reset and recharge.
Today we wore our PJs not just because it was comfy (and who doesn’t love a day without ironing uniforms? ) but because we believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported and ready to shine.
Thank you to everyone who joined in. It is more than just pyjamas, it’s hope, care and opportunity for kids who need it most.
A couple of weeks ago, our Kindergarten and Stage 3 students began their buddy sessions with nothing but smiling faces and plenty of fun! The highlight of the afternoon came when one Kindergarten student put up their hand and announced, “Today was the best day of my entire life!” This heartwarming comment made both their Year 5 buddy’s and teachers’ faces beam with pride.
We are thrilled to continue these special sessions every fortnight on Wednesday afternoons (even weeks), building friendships, confidence, and joy across the grades.
Last week, our Year 5 and 6 student leaders and helpers did an incredible job running the Hot Dog fundraiser. Mrs Cocks was so proud of the way our leaders stepped up and worked together to prepare and deliver over a 140 hot dog orders with such responsibility and teamwork.
The students organised class roles, ticked off names, labelled brown paper bags, sorted poppers and rolls into class baskets, and then carefully added the hot dogs into everyone’s rolls. Many staff commented on how well-mannered and professional the students were when delivering the orders, a true credit to them all!
The money raised from this fundraiser will go towards subsidising parent costs for upcoming school events, including our Stage 2/3 excursion to the zoo.
It was also lovely to hear students reflect on the experience while working in the canteen, sharing that it gave them a taste of what a part-time job might be like in the future.
Please enjoy the photos below of our hardworking leaders in action.
Not even the rain could dampen our spirits last week, our Book Week Parade was a whirlwind of colour, characters and creativity! From magical lands to wild safaris, our students took us on countless adventures through their incredible costumes.
A huge thank you to our wonderful families and community for helping this event come alive. Your energy, effort and imagination made it an adventure we’ll never forget.
And of course… after much searching, giggling and running around, we can finally confirm – yes, the Green Sheep was found! Who knew principals could hide so well?
Something very egg-citing is happening in Kindergarten and the students are completely hooked! This week, a mysterious egg appeared, and ever since, our youngest learners have been buzzing with predictions and theories. Could it be a dinosaur? A dragon? A duck? The suspense is real!
Stage 1 has already caught wind of the mystery and are joining in the speculation, with chatter spreading fast across the playground. The Kinder detectives are busily gathering clues, discussing their ideas, and building the anticipation for what might come next.
If you cross paths with a Kinder student next week, spark up a conversation and ask them what they think is inside the egg, you will be swept up in the excitement too!
Stay tuned… the big reveal is still to come!
At Barrack Heights Public School, we love giving our students the chance to try something new, exciting, and a little bit different. This term, our Sporting Schools grant has brought Ultimate Frisbee to our Stage 2 and Stage 3 PE program and the students are absolutely loving it!
So, what is Ultimate Frisbee?
Ultimate Frisbee (or “Ultimate” for short) is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport played with a flying disc (frisbee). It combines elements of soccer, netball, and American football, but with a frisbee instead of a ball. The goal is to pass the disc between teammates and catch it in the opposing team’s end zone. Players can’t run while holding the frisbee, so the game relies on teamwork, strategy, and lots of movement.
It’s fun, it’s active, and it’s all about cooperation and fair play. One of the unique features of Ultimate is the “Spirit of the Game”, which places emphasis on sportsmanship, respect, and honesty, values that fit perfectly with our school’s culture.
Thanks to the Sporting Schools Grant, our students are getting expert coaching and the chance to learn a sport that is both unusual and engaging. Already, the laughter, teamwork, and energy on the field show just how much our students are embracing this opportunity.
We can’t wait to see their skills continue to soar (just like the frisbee)!
This is the last call for expressions of interest for any boy or girl who would like to play in the Barrack Heights Public School Oztag Teams in the local Shellharbour Competition.
Games are played on a Thursday afternoon either at 4pm; 4:40pm or 5:20pm. All games are played on the Stingrays/Flinders Field.
We are anticipating to have an Under 10s boys team and a Under 10s girls team. The creation of teams will depend on numbers. If there are younger students who are interested we may be able to have an Under 8s mixed team.
There will not be any cost for registration or uniform to be part of this team.
If your child is 9 or 10 years old they are eligible to play in the Under 10s.
If your child is 7 or 8 they are eligible to play in the Under 8s.
Please fill out the expression of interest below so we can organise teams.
NO playing history is required, this is just a bit of fun and another way to connect outside of school.
