In Week 8, we were inspired by the incredible story of Sam Bloom, who showed amazing resilience while recovering from a traumatic spinal injury. During her journey, Sam formed a special friendship with a magpie named Penguin. Together, they helped each other heal — Sam helped Penguin learn to fly again, and Penguin inspired Sam to keep moving forward and chase her dreams.
Let’s celebrate the power of friendship, courage, and determination!
At Barrack Heights Public School, we recognise that every student learns differently and may benefit from different types of tailored support. To help parents better understand how we customise learning, here’s a brief overview of three key approaches:
Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs):
PLPs are specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. They provide tailored learning opportunities that connect with each student’s cultural background, strengths, and future goals. These pathways offer flexibility in how students engage with the curriculum and help shape their educational journey through choices and individualised challenges, supporting motivation and personal growth. PLPs are set and reviewed every semester to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs):
IEPs are detailed plans created for students with diagnosed disabilities or additional learning needs. These plans outline specialised goals, accommodations, and support services required to ensure equitable access to learning. IEPs are developed collaboratively with parents, educators, and specialists to address specific barriers to learning. They are reviewed each term, with new goals identified and set as focus areas to respond to student progress and changing needs.
Student Success Plans (SSPs):
SSPs are for every student at Barrack Heights Public School to ensure they are known, valued, and cared for. These plans complement the teaching and learning cycle by offering a structured, personalised approach to recognising each student’s unique strengths and needs. SSPs capture individual goals and tailored strategies, enabling targeted teaching that supports academic progress as well as social and emotional development. Importantly, SSPs involve students and families actively, promoting collaboration and reflection to continuously adapt learning experiences so every child can thrive. SSPs are reviewed termly, with new goals set as focus areas reflecting ongoing student growth and priorities.
Together, these plans ensure that all students receive the right supports and opportunities to succeed, reflecting our commitment to knowing, valuing, and supporting every learner.
If you have questions about your child’s learning plan, please contact their classroom teacher or Resli Calverley, Assistant Principal – Learning and Wellbeing.
What an awesome opportunity for our Stage 1, 2 and 3 students today, with Morks Rugby League!
Students enjoyed fun, learning, and teamwork as they tried out rugby league skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Each session was tailored to suit our students, and it was wonderful to see everyone participating enthusiastically—whether they were new to the game or already fans of rugby league. The day was filled with positive energy, laughter, and moments of students building confidence, resilience, and respect for one another.
Our students worked together, encouraged each other, and demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout all activities. The coaches from Morks Rugby League did an excellent job creating a sense of belonging and making sure every child felt included.
What a fantastic day celebrating Harmony Day today!
It was so wonderful to see our students getting into the spirit, proudly dressed in orange and embracing the message of inclusion, respect, and belonging.
Our school was buzzing with excitement as we shared and enjoyed delicious foods from a range of different countries. Such an awesome way to celebrate the many cultures that make our community so special. Our bellies are full and the smiles are big!
Our Year 3 and Year 5 students should be incredibly proud of their efforts in completing this year’s NAPLAN assessments. They approached each test with a positive attitude and did their very best, showing resilience and determination throughout the week. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they worked through each session.
A small number of students who were absent will complete their catch-up assessments which will conclude on Monday. The 23rd of March Thank you to our families for your ongoing support during this time.
Burri Burri has had a fabulous day at Come and Try Athletics - running, jumping, learning new skills and being safe, respectful and engaged athletes. The sun was shining, spirits were high and everyone had fun! Well done Burri Burri!

Regular school attendance is critical for a child's success at school to not only achieve their educational best but increase their career and life options.
BHPS will continue to work in partnership with families to encourage and support regular attendance with our range of positive attendance initiatives.
When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children. It is also important that your child arrives at school on-time.
Arriving at school and class on time:
ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day
helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
gives students time to greet their friends before class
reduces classroom disruption
Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.
