This week, students at Barrack Heights Public School had the opportunity to visit the Life Education van. The visit supported our curriculum with outcomes covered from the PDHPE syllabus. Students participated in a variety of interactive activities and were presented with many engaging learning tasks facilitated by the Life Education educator. They had the opportunity to question, problem solve, wonder, meet Healthy Harold and even dance with him! All students enjoyed their visit with Healthy Harold!

What a success today's Athletics carnival was! A huge thank you to Mr Murphy, Mrs Hodgson and the Sports Organising Team for all the behind the scenes work that went into making it such a success.
It was a fantastic day filled with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and memorable achievements. Students from all grades participated in events throughout the day, showcasing their talents. It was wonderful to see so many families there as well supporting our athletes!
We are proud of all our students for their hard work and determination. Check out some of the happy snaps that were captured throughout the day.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
On Monday 2 June 2025, a small group of Stage Three students, accompanied by Ms Scott and Mr Troy Tungai, attended the Shellharbour Reconciliation School Flag Walk.
The flag walk commenced from Warilla Surf Club and proceeded to Reddall Reserve East for the ceremony, which included a Smoking Ceremony, Welcome to Country, speeches, and an official exchange of flags between local Elders, Civic Leaders, Community Members, and school flag bearers. A BBQ lunch and fun activities followed the ceremony.
Our School Leaders, Sophie and Darius, also participated in the painting of a table centrepiece with Aboriginal artists from Coomaditchie. The centrepieces will be showcased on each table at the Regional NAIDOC Awards in July 2025 and gifted to the Elders who attend.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week this year is 'Bridging Now to Next'. It urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward towards a more united and respectful nation as past lessons guide us.
On Friday last week, we sent home our Student Success Plans to prepare for Term 2 and the upcoming start of Term 3. These goals reflect a deep understanding of each student's individual needs, strengths, and aspirations. By establishing clear and achievable objectives, educators have fostered supportive learning environments that empower students to take ownership of their educational journeys.
The purpose of our Student Success Plans is to support the collective journey of ensuring every child at Barrack Heights Public School is known, valued, and cared for. One of the most powerful ways we honour this vision is through our Student Success Plans. At BHPS, we know that working together with families is key to helping our students thrive. Our Success Plans are designed to support each child's learning by setting clear goals and strategies based on their individual needs. These plans guide students, educators, and families in working together to support academic progress, social development, and emotional well-being while tracking growth over time.
Thank you to all the parents for your support and commitment in creating goals for your children via our online School Bytes form.
Over the next two weeks, our PBS focus is on being engaged by following classroom routines. Routines help students know what to expect, build confidence, and make the most of their learning time. When routines are clear and consistently followed, classrooms run smoothly and students feel calm, organised, and ready to learn.
Teachers will be reinforcing the importance of routines such as morning unpacking, transition times, group work expectations, and end-of-day pack-up. Following these routines helps students stay focused, reduces distractions, and allows everyone to get the most out of their learning.
You can support this at home by talking with your child about the routines they follow each day and how those routines help them stay on track.
The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.
The NSW Department of Education has introduced a School Community Charter (PDF 1.4 MB) for all members of NSW public school communities. It has been developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders.
At Barrack Heights Public School, we deeply value the partnership between families and the school. Together, we form a community that shares the same goal: to ensure every child is supported, nurtured, and given every opportunity to thrive in their own unique way.
We understand that at times there may be uncertainty or lack of clarity around school decisions or communication. Please know that our intent is always to act in the best interests of our students and to work alongside families with transparency, care, and respect. When questions or concerns arise, we strongly encourage proactive and appropriate conversations with the school. These discussions are not only welcome, they are essential to strengthening trust and collaboration.
We ask that families avoid making assumptions and instead reach out to us directly if something is unclear or if you feel we may not be aware of an issue. By communicating openly and respectfully, we can ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards shared solutions.
We are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment and this is only possible when schools and families support one another with understanding, empathy, and a shared purpose.
Let’s continue to walk alongside one another, stay on the front foot, and focus on what matters most: the success and wellbeing of every child.
Our incredible BHPS touch football teams played on Tuesday last week, showing outstanding talent and teamwork.
The boys faced tough competition against Oak Flats Public School, while the girls battled through a challenging match against Shellharbour Public School. With such a young team of rising stars, they performed exceptionally well.
There’s plenty of exciting talent to watch in the years ahead!
On Monday, our students in Years 3–6 had the amazing opportunity to hear from Australian athlete Matilda Offord as part of the Olympics Unleashed initiative.
Matilda truly inspired our students with her powerful story of resilience, not just in her journey as a triathlete, but also in how she overcomes setbacks in everyday life. She shared practical strategies that help her stay focused, bounce back, and keep striving for success.
It was an incredible experience that really resonated with our students and left them feeling motivated and empowered. Thank you, Matilda, for sharing your journey with us!
On Monday, BHPS had the Illawarra South East Region Performing ensemble perform for us.
The Ensemble is made up of over 40 highly talented students at High Schools from around the Illawarra, South Coast, Sutherland Shire and Southern Highlands areas, and includes a full stage band, vocal ensemble and a dance troupe.
It was an amazing experience! Thank you for visiting Barrack Heights Public School
