The Life Education Van will be visiting Barrack Heights Public School in Week 6, from Monday 2nd of June to Thursday 5th of June.
All students from K to 6 will have the opportunity to visit Healthy Harold with their class and teacher.
The visit supports our curriculum; therefore, it is compulsory for all students to attend. Each stage will explore a relevant program appropriate to their age.
On Wednesday, 21st of May, Barrack Heights Public School celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime with a whole school assembly. Students participated in a presentation lead by students in K/6 Djamalang. They simultaneously listened to 'The Truck Cat', this year's chosen book!
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held by the Australian Library and Information Association. Each year a picture book is chosen that is written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator. The event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book.
Today our PSSA Netball team versed Oak Flats PS in a knockout competition. The girls played so well together as a team, they have truly made such improvements since they first began playing netball together.
We are so proud of you girls for stepping outside of your comfort zones and giving it your all today!
On Monday, 19th May, our BHPS community came together to celebrate a very special occasion; the SRC Induction Ceremony. It was a heartwarming event that recognised the dedication and potential of our newly elected Student Representative Council members.
Surrounded by proud families, staff, and fellow students, our SRC leaders were formally presented with their badges and pledged their commitment to lead with integrity, respect, and responsibility. They promised to represent their peers, participate actively in all SRC initiatives, and uphold the values of our school.
This ceremony marked not only the beginning of their leadership journey but also reflected the strong sense of community and collaboration that defines BHPS. We are incredibly proud of our student leaders and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have throughout the year.

Congratulations to Jack J on winning the Term 1 Family Experience Attendance Award. Jack was randomly selected from all students who has an attendance rate over 90% in Term 1. We can't wait to hear all about your visit to Symbio Wildlife Park, Jack!
For week 5, our PBS focus is on being respectful by communicating positively with others. Students are learning how to use kind words, listen actively, and speak calmly in all settings – whether they're in the classroom, on the playground, or lining up at the canteen.
Teachers are modelling and practising these skills through role plays and real-life examples. You can support this focus at home by encouraging your child to talk about ways they’ve used respectful communication during their day. Positive communication builds strong relationships and helps create a safe, supportive school environment for everyone.
For week 6, our PBS focus is on keeping ourselves and others safe by using safe hands and feet. Students are learning that keeping their hands and feet to themselves helps create a calm and respectful environment where everyone feels secure.
Across all school settings, we are reminding students to solve problems with words, keep personal space, and move safely. You can reinforce this at home by discussing what it looks like to use safe hands and feet during play and when managing big emotions.
At Barrack Heights Public School, we are deeply committed to nurturing not only the academic success of our students but also their social and emotional wellbeing. We know that when students feel safe, supported, and connected, they are better able to engage in learning and thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
Over the past term, our executive team has been working diligently to identify a high-quality Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program that will best suit the needs of our students, staff, and school community. We have carefully reviewed a wide range of options, engaged with other schools, sat in on expert presentations, and most importantly, reflected on the feedback and priorities raised by our staff during our recent School Development Days.
Our aim has been clear from the beginning: to select a program that is evidence-based, resource-rich, easy for teachers to implement, and above all, impactful for students. We are now in the final stages of this process and are excited about the opportunity this initiative presents for our school.
As part of this new direction, we will also be including resources and information for families, so that the important skills and strategies taught at school can be reinforced and supported at home. This partnership between school and home is vital in helping our children build emotional intelligence, resilience, empathy, and the tools they need to navigate life with confidence and care.
We look forward to sharing more with you very soon as we prepare to launch this new wellbeing initiative. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us make Barrack Heights Public School a place where every child can grow, learn, and flourish.
The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.
The NSW Department of Education has introduced a School Community Charter (PDF 1.4 MB) for all members of NSW public school communities. It has been developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders.
At Barrack Heights Public School, we deeply value the partnership between families and the school. Together, we form a community that shares the same goal: to ensure every child is supported, nurtured, and given every opportunity to thrive in their own unique way.
We understand that at times there may be uncertainty or lack of clarity around school decisions or communication. Please know that our intent is always to act in the best interests of our students and to work alongside families with transparency, care, and respect. When questions or concerns arise, we strongly encourage proactive and appropriate conversations with the school. These discussions are not only welcome, they are essential to strengthening trust and collaboration.
We ask that families avoid making assumptions and instead reach out to us directly if something is unclear or if you feel we may not be aware of an issue. By communicating openly and respectfully, we can ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards shared solutions.
We are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment and this is only possible when schools and families support one another with understanding, empathy, and a shared purpose.
Let’s continue to walk alongside one another, stay on the front foot, and focus on what matters most: the success and wellbeing of every child.
On Monday, our students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be engaging in an Olympics Unleashed opportunity where Australian Triathlete, Matilda Offord will be presenting her journey to our student body. We are excited to meet Matilda and hear her story towards the Olympics.
