Check out some wonderful moments from our Harmony Day celebrations this year! This week, students and staff came together to embrace our cultural diversity and promote inclusiveness.
There have been vibrant activities, performances, and delicious food from various cultures, showcasing the rich tapestry that makes our school community unique. It was heartwarming to see everyone participating, learning, and celebrating together.
Please enjoy these photos that capture the spirit of Harmony Day 2025. We look forward to continuing to foster an environment of respect and understanding.
Barrack Heights Public School is proud to announce that the AECG (Aboriginal Education Consultative Group) has officially approved the naming of our Special Education Unit Burri Burri.
Last year our Aboriginal Education Team met with Community members, students and educators to start the consultation process for naming our Special Education Unit. The consultation process brought up many ideas and the team decided to keep with the theme of our class names. Following continued discussions the name Burri Burri was decided on and this was then put forward to our Jubrosay AECG for approval.
Here is our purpose statement behind the naming:
The Dharawal name ‘Burri Burri’ is a deeply meaningful and fitting choice for the Barrack Heights Public School Support Unit. Rooted in the rich traditions of the Dharawal people, the original custodians of this land, ‘Burri Burri’ reflects a strong connection to Country, culture, and identity.
In Dharawal language, ‘Burri Burri’ refers to the whale, a powerful and respected totem in Aboriginal culture. Whales are known for their strength, resilience, and deep family bonds—qualities that resonate with the values of our Support Unit. Just as whales navigate vast oceans together, supporting and guiding one another, our Support Unit fosters a sense of belonging, care, and shared growth for all students.
By adopting the name ‘Burri Burri,’ we honour the enduring knowledge and wisdom of the Dharawal people while reinforcing our commitment to inclusivity, respect, and the celebration of Aboriginal heritage within our school community. This name serves as a reminder of our responsibility to nurture, uplift, and empower every student in a supportive and culturally aware environment.
We are looking forward to some artwork and signage in the near future.

Dear K-2 Parents and Carers,
You’re invited to join us in creating a special Easter Hat with your child for this year’s parade!
📅 When: Wednesday, April 2nd
📍 Where: Your child’s classroom
⏰ Time: 2:00 - 3:00 PM
Please bring along any specific craft materials your child would like to use to decorate their hat, such as stickers, pom-poms, feathers, or colored paper. These items will be for your child’s use, so feel free to bring anything special they’d love to include in their design.
If you’d like to donate materials ahead of time, you’re welcome to drop them off at the office—these will be shared among classes to ensure all students have access to supplies.
For safety reasons, we kindly ask that hot glue guns are NOT brought to school. If your child’s hat requires hot gluing, please complete that part at home and add the finishing touches in class.
Before heading to your child’s classroom, please sign in at the front office.
We can’t wait to see you there and celebrate this fun tradition together!
Warm regards,
