Value: Safe Focus: We use safe hands and feet
This week at school, our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) focus is on being safe by using safe hands and feet. We are teaching students that keeping our hands and feet to ourselves helps everyone feel comfortable, respected, and safe.
You can support this focus at home by talking with your child about times when they can show safe hands and feet, for example, playing with siblings, using playground equipment, or lining up for activities. Working together helps us build a safe and caring school community for all.
Value: Respectful Focus: We communicate positively with others
This week at school, our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) focus is on being respectful by communicating positively with others. Students are learning that positive communication includes using polite and kind words, listening carefully, and speaking in ways that make others feel valued.
You can support this focus at home by encouraging your child to practise positive communication, whether it’s saying “please” and “thank you,” listening during family conversations, or using kind words with siblings and friends. Together, we can reinforce respectful communication as a key life skill.
We had some very special visitors this week – the Shellharbour City Council Lifeguards! They taught us how to have fun at the beach and stay safe. Here’s what we learned:
☀️ Sun Safety – Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide! (Clothes, sunscreen, hat, shade, sunnies!) Stay cool and protect your skin.
🌊 Rip Safety – Always swim between the red and yellow flags. If you get caught in a rip – don’t panic! Stay calm, float, and wave your arm for help.
🏄 Beach Smart Tips – Listen to the lifeguards, drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on your friends.
It was a fun, action-packed visit, and now we’re all ready to enjoy the waves safely this summer!
A small question can make a big difference, and you don’t need a special day to check in on someone you care about.
Little gestures can start big conversations.
Ask the question: R U OK? because any day is the right day to show you care.
Our recent excursion to Symbio Wildlife Park was an exciting and memorable experience for all the students. A particular highlight was the opportunity to feed the friendly farm animals, especially the playful goats, which brought lots of smiles and laughter. We also enjoyed getting up close with the kangaroos during their feeding session, allowing the students to connect with these iconic Australian animals.
The day was capped off with an engaging reptile show that fascinated everyone, providing a great chance to learn about these unique creatures in a fun and interactive way. This excursion truly brought wildlife to life and created lasting memories for our school community.

Nharrawangay students are enjoying their session of Ultimate Frisbee!
It was in the hall due to weather conditions outside but that didn't stop the thrills and shrill squeals of children thoroughly engaged in catching a quick, spinning, moving piece of plastic.
They realised that Frisbee was fun, fun, fun. ULTIMATE FRISBEE IS A HIT.
Happy Father’s Day to our BHPS Community
Last Friday morning we were so lucky to come together for our Big Brekky for Big Legends to celebrate all the incredible dads, grandads, uncles, brothers, and special role models who make such a difference in the lives of our students.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. We loved seeing so many of our loved ones enjoying breakfast, laughter, and time together. Your presence made the morning extra special, and it reminded us just how important it is to celebrate the wonderful people who support, guide, and inspire our children every day.
From all of us at Barrack Heights Public School, we wish all the father figures in our community a very Happy Father’s Day.
