How lovely it was to take a moment today and celebrate Women.
For International Women's Day Miss Finlay organised a morning tea with the Year 6 girls. It was a heartwarming event filled with inspiring conversations, laughter, and a sense of community.
It was a joy to see them engage in discussions about the importance of women's contributions to society. These moments are crucial in empowering our young leaders of tomorrow.
Check out these photos capturing the essence of the day. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. It measures essential skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and numeracy, providing valuable insights into student learning and progress. NAPLAN is not a pass-or-fail test but one of many tools schools use to support student learning and identify areas for growth.
While we encourage students to do their best, we also remind them that NAPLAN is just one part of their learning journey, and success comes in many forms. As we approach NAPLAN, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the value it brings in understanding where our students are in their literacy and numeracy development. As mentioned, NAPLAN provides important insights into key skills, helping us identify strengths and areas for growth to guide our teaching and support. However, it is just one of many tools we use to understand student learning—it does not define a child’s entire educational journey.
More importantly, NAPLAN does not measure the kindness, creativity, resilience, or unique aspirations of our students. It does not capture their determination, their friendships, or the incredible progress they make every day in ways that cannot be measured by a test. While we encourage students to do their best and approach the assessments with confidence, we also remind them—and you—that success comes in many forms.
We appreciate your ongoing support in helping students feel positive about NAPLAN. Thank you for working with us to support your child’s learning. If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

As you may have noticed, Gate C, our electronic gate, remains locked during school hours. If you need to access the school and they gate is locked, please contact the office to have the gate unlocked. Once it is open, we kindly ask that you close it behind you instead of leaving it open. This gate is in place to ensure the safety of our students on school grounds.
Each day at 2:55 PM, our student leaders will open the back gates near the Basketball Courts for afternoon pick up.
The number of students who are currently riding their bikes and scooters to school has grown substantially. We have also had reports of students in our uniform riding in an unsafe manner in streets surrounding our school.
Whilst the school teaches road safety as part of the PD/H/PE syllabus, it is important to continually discuss with your child:
How they get to school – the route you expect them to take (making mention of why this is important)
Safe riding behaviours (what they specifically look like)
In New South Wales, the prime responsibility for transporting children to and from school rests with parents, not the school. As students riding to and from school does not occur within ‘school hours’ or on Departmental premises, and as it does not involve supervision by Departmental employees, the Department would not accept legal responsibility for any accident or injury that occurred while students were riding to or from school.
It is the school’s expectation that students travelling to and from school by bicycle or scooter will follow the law and correctly wear an approved safety helmet. In line with the law, and guidelines set by the DoE, students who wish to ride bicycles/scooters to school must complete the following forms (These can be found on School Bytes, via these 2 links, Bicycle/Scooter Permission Note & Bicycle/Scooter User’s Contract or collected from the office).
Bicycle/Scooter Permission Note: to be signed by parent or carer and returned to school.
Bicycle/Scooter Users Contract: to be signed by the student and parent or carer and returned to school.
At Barrack Heights Public School we do not want to discourage riding to school, however we want to ensure that our students are safe and display correct riding behaviours. Their safety and wellbeing is our utmost priority and putting these guidelines in place will ensure they are aware of the role they play in keeping themselves safe. Please make sure you take your child through the following pages so we can continue to work together to keep our children safe.
