Victoria Avenue Public School would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Wangal clan of the Eora nation, the traditional owners of the land on which we learn, work and play. We pay our respect to elders past and present and extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples learning, working or visiting at our school.

We have been greeted by some friendly, feathered friends in one of our beautiful, blossoming Grevillea trees in the mornings this week. They just love nibbling on these blossoming flowers. Can you tell me the name of these cheeky birds? You might like to create a fact file or write a story about them. Please come and see Ms Beattie to share your amazing ideas and we can publish them in the next newsletter.
Land, Sky and Waters
Thank you to Ms Mole for creating these flashcards to complement student and staff learning from walking around our school with Uncle Jimmy Smith. These flashcards are highly useful and practical for all staff and students to use as vocabulary and picture prompts for literacy learning back in the classroom in response to our local walks on country. Students are engaged in literacy learning while they learn about our local plant and animal life.
Celebrating Learning
It is hard to believe we’re already almost halfway through Term 4. The energy across the school is wonderful as students continue to learn, engage and prepare for the coming weeks.
Classrooms are full of purposeful learning as teachers focus on consolidating key skills in reading, writing and numeracy. It has been a highlight for me to visit classrooms this week to see student learning in action. Students are working on personal learning goals in reading and celebrating the progress they make each lesson. They work in pairs and give feedback about what they do well and their next steps for learning in reading fluency.
Transition to 2026
Planning for next year is well underway. Kindergarten 2026 orientation sessions began this week and it has been wonderful to welcome our newest learners and their families to the school. Year 6 students are preparing for their transition to high school, with visits and orientation days scheduled in the coming weeks.
Celebrations and Events
Term 4 brings many special events, including excursions, special assemblies and end-of-year celebrations. Please keep an eye on the school calendar and School Bytes for details and permission notes. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students at the Excellence Assembly later this term, on Monday 8 December.
Before school reminder
A reminder to all families that supervision of students begins at 8:30am. Please ensure your children arrive at school after 8:30am so they are supervised and ready for the day. If you have commitments that require your child to be at school before 8:30am, please contact Camp Australia OOSH service to arrange before school care for your child.
Road Safety
Thank you to all students, parents and carers who travel safely to and from school every single day and follow our school guidelines to stay safe. Your safe behaviours around the school flow into your behaviours all day every day no matter where you are inside the school and out in the community. Safe behaviours are paramount to keeping us physically safe and free from avoidable incidents at all times. Please take a moment to revise our guidelines and please emphasise them with your children.
These are the school guidelines for students and families travelling by bike, scooter or car.
Bikes and Scooters:
WALK bikes and scooters along the footpath leading out of school, either towards Victoria Avenue or towards Powell's Creek
WALK with parents/carers along the footpath, not ahead of them
STOP before entering the pedestrian crossing at Victoria Avenue
LOOK both ways before crossing the road at the crossing
WALK your bike or scooter across the pedestrian crossing
WEAR a helmet at all times
Cars:
ALWAYS drive very slowly around the school
LOOK OUT for children at all times when driving
PARK your car rear to curb in the carpark
BE PATIENT around the school. Afternoon traffic usually clears within 5 minutes which is a relatively short time to wait
CONSIDER parking further away from the school and walking in
ASSIST young children to get in and out of the car safely
Thank you to all families for helping to keep our students safe every day travelling to and from school.
