Victoria Avenue Public School would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Wangal clan of the Eora nation, the traditional owners of the land on which we learn, work and play. The inaugural Playgroup for children who will be starting Kindergarten in 2026 last week was a great success!
We will be hosting the next playgroup on Thursday 18 September, 9:30-10:30am. A light morning tea will be provided.
Families can RSVP for playgroup here.
Our Playgroup sessions are a fun and relaxed way for children to:
meet new friends and become familiar with the school environment
play, learn and explore together
start building confidence for their transition to school
The playgroup sessions will provide a valuable opportunity for parents to meet and connect with other families. School staff will also be on hand to answer questions and offer support as you prepare for this important step into Kindergarten.
Siblings are very welcome to attend.
If you are intending to enrol your child in Kindergarten for 2026, we kindly ask that you complete the enrolment process now. This will ensure your family receives all relevant information about our transition program and upcoming school events. Online enrolment can be accessed here.
We encourage our whole school community to share this invitation with neighbours, friends, and extended family who may have children starting school in 2026. We look forward to welcoming new and returning families to our school.
Thank you to Ms Peachey and Ms Baumgart for planning this opportunity for our community.
Senior Constable Jim spoke with our students about road safety.
I am continuing to work with Canada Bay Council regarding my application in Term 1, 2025 for a Crossing Supervisor to be stationed at the Victoria Avenue pedestrian crossing every day. I am hopeful this will happen very soon for our school.
We were thankful to have Senior Constable Jim visit last week to speak with all students at morning assembly about road safety.
I would like to thank all the students who follow the VAPS road safety guidelines every single day when they are travelling to and from our beautiful school. We are very fortunate that our school is close to so much parkland and we can enjoy riding bikes and scooters to and from school. We are also very fortunate to have a car park that is accessible to the public.
These are the school guidelines for students and families travelling by bike, scooter or car.
Bikes and Scooters:
WALK bikes and scooters along the footpath leading out of school, either towards Victoria Avenue or towards Powell's Creek
WALK with parents/carers along the footpath, not ahead of them
STOP before entering the pedestrian crossing at Victoria Avenue
LOOK both ways before crossing the road at the crossing
WALK your bike or scooter across the pedestrian crossing
WEAR a helmet at all times
Cars:
ALWAYS drive very slowly around the school
LOOK OUT for children at all times when driving
PARK your car rear to curb in the carpark
BE PATIENT around the school. Afternoon traffic usually clears within 5 minutes which is a relatively short time to wait
CONSIDER parking further away from the school and walking in
ASSIST young children to get in and out of the car safely
Thank you to all families for helping to keep our students safe every day travelling to and from school.
🔑 HIP Keys - Work Together
This fortnight, I have been keeping an eye out for students who are actively demonstrating the HIP Key “work together.” I have seen wonderful examples across classrooms, especially in Stage 3 where students are finalising their planning for Circus Bezerkus. Students have been collaborating, sharing ideas and supporting one another to bring their plans to life. Whether it’s helping a classmate solve a tricky problem, combining creative ideas or taking turns to lead and listen, these choices show how working together makes our school a stronger, more connected place to learn and play.
⏰On Time, Ready to Shine!
Being at school on time helps your child start the day calm, connected and ready to learn. Morning lines begin at 9:00am, so we encourage families to aim for 8:55am, before the music plays. This way, students don’t miss out on reminders, routines and the chance to feel part of our school community. Every minute matters - thank you for helping your child build great habits!
