TERM 3, WEEK 6 2025
Mitchell Welham
We are now halfway through Term 3, and what a busy and exciting term it has been so far!
Staff Change
For the next fortnigh, Ms Bennett is out of the school as relieving Assistant Principal Learning & Support. Mrs Buckley is currently filling this role. I want to thank both teachers for their flexibility as well as thank parents of KA for their understanding.
Capital Works Update
Our long-awaited capital works are steadily progressing, despite some delays caused by rain. The concreting has now been completed, and we are excited to see the new netball court being laid on Monday. This will require a one-week period before students are able to use it. Over the coming weeks, you’ll also notice sections of fencing coming down, allowing us to gradually open up more of the playground to our students. Minor repairs will also be carried out on our running track to ensure it is safe and ready for use.
Celebrating Events and Achievements
I am so proud of the organisation of our staff and the wonderful behaviour and enthusiasm shown by our students at recent events. Our Book Parade was once again a huge success—though I don’t think the photos ever capture the energy and excitement of the day! This week’s Yarn Up! was also well attended, with our trusty sausage sizzle proving popular as always.
A special mention goes to our athletics superstars who represented Wyong Public School with courage, commitment, and great sportsmanship at the TLPSSA Zone Athletics Carnival. Equally wonderful has been seeing our Support Unit students taking part in community access experiences such as ten pin bowling—always a highlight.
Upcoming Events
We have a number of exciting activities coming up:
PMI Music Performance in the hall on Monday
OC Class Tours with thanks to the fabulous Mrs Carter
Father’s Day Stalls next Wednesday and Thursday
Father’s Day Breakfast next Friday
We look forward to celebrating these moments with our school community.
Professional Learning and Leadership
I have been fortunate to engage in some outstanding professional learning opportunities recently through the External Validation process, visiting Annandale PS in Sydney and Kurri Kurri PS near Maitland. It is always inspiring to see the incredible work being done in schools across NSW.
This week I will attend the Central Coast Primary Principals Conference, and the following week I will be facilitating Growing Great Leaders in Sydney. During these times, Mrs Arnot and Mrs Marler will share the role of relieving Principal, ensuring strong leadership continues while I am offsite.
Communication and Resources
Our new-look school website is now live! Mr Adams and I are currently developing brand-new online Parent/Carer Information Handbooks, which will contain a wealth of important information. Separate handbooks will also be created for our OC and Support Class settings. We will share updates with families as these become available.
Thank you also to the many parents and carers who completed the recent Public Schools Survey. We are working with a specialised NSW DoE team, alongside other Central Coast schools, around enrolment uplift. Your feedback—combined with staff and student voice—is helping to shape exciting opportunities for both our school and our wider network.
Learning and Teaching
Finally, I want to celebrate our students. Over the past few weeks, our executive team has been conducting learning walks—structured classroom visits that allow us to see teaching and learning in action. These are not evaluations, but opportunities to share practice, reflect, and strengthen a shared vision for high-quality instruction.
I was especially impressed this week with the spelling focus in 5/6S and the enthusiastic engagement with Infrastructure in 5/6T. Our students continue to amaze me with their curiosity, commitment, and joy for learning.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of our students, staff, and school.
Warm regards,
Mitchell Welham
