Stage 2 have enjoyed a great start to the year. We settled in to class routines very positively and we have worked on making connections with the students in our class. Being positive and kind is a big focus across the stage as we know that if we are happy and engaged, then we are ready to learn!

English

In English, we have been looking at a variety of texts. We are currently reading Ned kelly and the Green sash which is bringing up a lot of debate on whether Ned Kelly was a hero or a villain. The discussions in classes has been robust, with student starting to use evidence from the text to give statements about their position.  We have read a variety of texts aloud to improve our fluency and answered lots of tricky questions to develop our comprehension. Last term in our writing we created fact files about a planet in our solar system and presented them to the class. 

Maths

During Mathematics lessons, we have looked at the basics of whole number, addition and subtraction. We can identify what is the most efficient way to add and subtract numbers and we are now all familiar with using algorithms to solve a variety of problems. We complete learning journals every week to show our understanding of the topic for the week and prove our thinking through the use of a foldable (a mini assessment - but don’t tell the students that!). There has been a big focus on High Potential and Gifted education within our stage and making sure that all our learners needs are catered for. This is very evident in our number sense activities where we differentiate games to suit our students needs. 

Zoo Snooz

We have a very busy term ahead with Gala days, Grandparents day, Book Fair and NAIDOC week as well as all the other wonderful lunch time clubs we have at our school. We look forward to continuing to support our students to be motivated, resilient and respectful learners at The Oaks PS.
