Term 1, Week 8 | 2025
Can you believe we're in Week 8 already? What a busy term we've had!!
There are still plenty of exciting learning opportunities to come though and we've got lots to celebrate so far.
This morning we all put our brightest smiles on for the camera as we had our annual school photos. Not only will they form part of the archives of the students and staff at Bobs Farm PS in 2025, but they will also, as I've discovered this past week, become mementos to be shared with family and friends over decades to come. I was contacted last week by an old schoolmate of mine, from more than 30 years ago. She created a group chat message connecting several of us together, many of whom I had not seen or heard from since leaving school. She shared a large array of candid and formal photos from our high school days. We laughed at the hairstyles and uniform fashion of the day, but also reminisced about the collective memories we shared as a result of seeing these photos. It got me thinking about how important photos are for capturing moments in history but also of the relationships we form with other people. It highlighted to me how our school days are not only about academic education but also about building us into the people we become as adults. These photos help show the connection we have with the community around us and that no matter where our lives take us after this, we are all connected in this special way, through these school days.
What a privilege it is for me to be a part of this time in these children's lives and have them in mine. We will forever be connected by the time we share at school each day and these school photos will remind us of the amazing time we have together at Bobs Farm PS!
In other news, students in Years 3 and 5 are currently completing the NAPLAN assessments. These involve tasks in writing, reading, conventions of language (eg spelling, grammar and punctuation), as well as numeracy. The results will not be available for a few months. Parents will receive personalised copies of their child's results when they arrive. The children have taken these assessments in their stride and given their best effort, which is all anyone can ever ask of them. I've admired the positive outlook and attitude of all involved.

In some sad news, at the end of Week 9, we will bid farewell to Miss Newey as she takes some time away from full-time teaching for family reasons. We will fondly remember our time with her and greatly appreciate the enormous passion, empathy and dedication she has shown every one of us here at Bobs Farm. We wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her back here again in time to come. Miss Newey will not be a stranger to us. We will see her back for some short visits later in the year.
A HUGE thank you to you, Miss Newey, for all you have done for our school; the students, families and staff. You are one very special human whom we all feel very grateful for having the pleasure of spending each day with. We wish you lots of luck in your new ventures.
Mrs Parker will be teaching K12 until Miss Newey's replacement commences. Further information to come as it becomes available.

Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated International Women's Day with us! What a wonderful day we had with Mr Springfield's delicious brekkie, an inspirational and uplifting women's yarning circle, dance performance and handmade gifts from the students. The day was capped off by our wonderful student-initiated and led fundraiser of snowcones and sweet pastries. We raised over $100 for new sports equipment for the school.
What a fabulous, energising day it was!
