Term 1 has been a fantastic time of learning and discovery for our Stage 1 students! We have been working hard across all key learning areas, developing important skills and achieving great progress. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to in class:

Phonics & Reading: Our students have been building their reading confidence by focusing on phonics and decoding strategies. Through engaging activities, they have been learning about letter-sound relationships, blending, and segmenting words to strengthen their reading fluency. We have also been exploring a variety of texts, developing comprehension skills and discussing story elements such as characters, settings, and main ideas.

Writing: Stage 1 students have been expanding their writing abilities by exploring sentence structure, punctuation, and imaginative storytelling. They have been working on constructing well-formed sentences, using descriptive words, and expressing their ideas clearly. We have also introduced narrative and informative writing, encouraging students to write with purpose and creativity.

Mathematics: Maths lessons have been filled with hands-on learning experiences. Our students have been exploring number concepts, addition and subtraction strategies, and pattern recognition. We have also been working on problem-solving skills, using concrete materials and visual representations to help deepen their mathematical understanding.

History: In History, students have been investigating the past through the ancient cultures of Greece, China, Rome and Egypt. Through storytelling, photographs, and artefacts, they have been developing an understanding of how history shapes our lives today. They have also been learning how to sequence events chronologically and identify key moments in history.

PDHPE: Our students have been learning about the importance of staying active, making healthy choices, and working as a team. Through fun physical activities and games, they have been developing their fundamental movement skills, coordination, and fitness levels. In health lessons, we have been discussing topics such as friendships, emotions, and personal safety to help students build resilience and positive relationships.

Creative Arts: Students have been expressing themselves through painting, drawing self portraits. We have been looking at colours and tones.
