On behalf of The Oaks Public School community, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Gundungurra and Dharawal peoples, who have occupied these lands for over 65,000 years. The Oaks area was considered as a crossroads for both Gundungurra and Dharawal peoples, where they would share knowledge, trade materials and travel between the two nations. They will always be the traditional custodians of this land. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledge their deep spiritual connection to this land and the valuable contribution they make to this region, for they hold the knowledge and wisdom for our emerging leaders. As a community, we promise to always be honest, safe and respectful caretakers of this land we are learning on. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Upgrade of School Grounds 

We were excited to showcase our new Nature Play space this fortnight.  We also have several other projects in the process of being finalised and delivered. 

1. Our school security will be upgraded with the installation of electronic gates. This will occur from week 2 term 2. This may mean some changes to pick up and drop off due to trenches being dug around the gates. Please watch School Bytes for any updates.

2. We will be having new flagpoles installed. This will be mid term and should only take a day. This will allow us to fly the Australian flag along with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flag. 

3. The fund raising from the School Fete last year has allowed for the purchase of outdoor furniture by the P&C to create the outdoor classroom. We are in the process of arranging concrete pads for these to stand on. We hope that this space will be completed by the end of term 2. We will keep our community informed.

Easter Hat Parade

Easter Hat Parade Recap: A Day of Creativity and Fun! 🐣🎩

This year’s Easter Hat Parade was a huge success, bringing together community members of all ages for a day filled with creativity, laughter, and lots of festive spirit! The parade was a vibrant display of colorful, unique hats, and it was heartwarming to see so many participants showcasing their imaginative designs.

Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the day:

1. Creative DIY Hats: The parade showcased some truly impressive DIY creations. From hats resembling Easter baskets filled with faux eggs to hats adorned with springtime animals or popular games and characters, it was clear that each student (and parent helper) put a lot of thought and care into their designs.

2. Family Fun: It was especially wonderful to see families coming together to share a picnic lunch. Our students love inviting their loved ones into their playground and we are so grateful for the massive turnout. A big thank you to Buzy Bees Preschoolers and their educators who stole the show with their gorgeous hats. 

3. Raffle Prizes and Recognition: The day also included some amazing raffle prizes provided by our fantastic P&C. They’ve worked hard over the last few weeks to prepare raffle tickets, collect chocolate donations and organise a special treat for each student. Thank you P&C!
   Shout out to our mystery teacher who had the challenge of choosing a stage winner for ‘best hat’ - congratulations to our winners. 

4. A special congratulations to the colouring competition winners; Amber, Beau, Max F, Max J, Koa B and Indigo! 

Events like these don’t just come together and we are so lucky to have an amazing team of staff who work behind the scenes to make this happen.

 Specific thanks goes to the following legends; 

- Mrs Grieve for the decorations & displays 

- Mrs Kerr for her coordination of music

- Mr Keast and 5/6K for the set up

- Mrs Tranter, Mrs Granger and Mrs Foley for judging the colouring competition 

- Levi, Heather, Ryan, Beau and Will our fabulous MCs

- Lily, Libby and Claire for managing the mics and music 

- All staff members for their flexibility and support on the day!

In conclusion, this year’s Easter Hat Parade was a delightful event that brought our community closer together. We’re already excited for next year’s parade and can’t wait to see what even more creative hats will appear in the future!
