TERM 3, WEEK 9 2025
Mitchell Welham
Dear Parents, carers and our Wyong community,
These past three-weeks hav been a very positive period for our school, with so many wonderful opportunities for our students to learn, grow and shine.
School Photography | A big thank you to MSP Photography for visiting our school this week to capture promotional photos of our students, staff, and grounds. These images will soon feature on our new school website, as well as in our promotional material and information handbooks. We are excited to showcase the pride and spirit of Wyong Public School.
Parent & Carer Handbooks | Speaking of handbooks, we are developing a new online handbook for parents and carers. This can be accessed through our school website: Wyong Public School → Information Handbook → General. In addition, we are currently working on specialised handbooks for both our Opportunity Class (OC) and Support settings to provide families with tailored information.
Programs & Excursions | Swim Scheme began this week, with some minor hiccups in the Sentral Parent Portal. Thank you for your patience as we sorted these out. The program provides students with essential water safety skills and confidence that will last a lifetime.
Our Kindergarten students thoroughly enjoyed their recent excursion to the Australian Reptile Park. This was a valuable hands-on learning experience that connected beautifully with their science and literacy studies.
At the time of writing, our Year 5 students are preparing for their Glenworth Valley excursion. We anticipate an exciting two days of outdoor activities that encourage teamwork, resilience, and independence. Many thanks to Mrs Carter for her organisation and commitment.
Celebrating Achievements | A huge shout out to Mrs Mac who supported our talented state dancers—Remmi, Emmy, and Annabelle—at Monday night’s performance. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to pursue their passion in the arts and showcase their talent on a state stage.
This week, selected Aboriginal students represented our school in the Goolagong AFL Shield against neighbouring public schools. Thank you to Matt Haines, Christine Coles, and the team at Hunter/Central Coast AFL for making this possible.
A massive thumbs up to Mrs Scotton and Mrs Bath for their tireless efforts in organising our school’s involvement in the Central Coast Choral Festival. We are incredibly privileged to have staff who go above and beyond to provide rich experiences in the performing arts.
School Culture & Wellbeing | I am very proud to share that our school has seen a 40% decrease in negative behaviours this year. This is despite the temporary disruption to the playground (which is now looking fantastic!). Stronger relationships between students and staff are having a powerful impact on learning and wellbeing, and it is heartening to see such positive growth across our school community.
Leadership | Lastly, I am currently at State Office facilitating the Growing Great Leaders program through the School Leadership Institute. This initiative supports principals and aspiring leaders across NSW to strengthen their skills and foster future-focused leadership in schools. A huge thank you to Mrs Marler for stepping up into the relieving Principal role in my absence.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and partnership.

Principal – Wyong Public School
The NSW Department of Education is committed to providing opportunities where every student learns, grows and belongs in an equitable and outstanding education system, one where every student can achieve ambitious learning goals.
To support this commitment, support classes that were formerly named Emotional Disturbance (ED) and Behaviour Disorder (BD) will now be called Intensive Learning Support (Mental Health) (ILSMH) and Intensive Learning Support (Behaviour) (ILSB) classes. This new naming better reflects the support and learning focus of these classes.
The change comes after listening to feedback from school leaders, students, families and education experts. If your child is enrolled in or applying for these classes, you may still receive some messages using the old names ‘ED’ or ‘BD’ while we work to update our systems. You do not need to do anything to update this information.
Starting from Term 4 2025, communication about these classes will progressively use the new names. This is just a change of name and does not affect who can access these classes or the support your child receives.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Father's Day stall and raffle a success. Thank you to the volunteers, Chantelle, Kristy, Tiffany, Alice, Colin, Sylvia, Chin, Dominique and Caitlin who helped to wrap and sell on the days. Congratulations to Taj, Ella, JJ, Chris, Aurora, Roscoe, Aura, Malakai, Ashlyn and Lila, on winning prizes. Thank you to Bunnings Tuggerah, Bunnings Lake Haven and Battle Kart Tuggerah for their donations to our raffle. Have a happy and safe holiday.
Have a look to see which grade is leading the attendance race this term!
Learning every day matters – Each day at school builds new skills. Missing days means missing steps that help children understand and grow.
Friends and fun – School isn’t just for learning; it’s where kids play, make friends, and enjoy activities together.
Confidence grows with practice – Going to school regularly helps children feel comfortable, confident, and proud of what they can do.
Teachers can help better – When kids are at school, teachers know how they’re going and can give the right support.
Good habits for life – Being on time and showing up every day teaches responsibility, a skill that helps at school, work, and in life.
The Kids Hub provides a timely initial triage to connect families with appropriate services, offering short-term, evidence-based therapies and support when other options are unavailable. Their team, which includes specialists in mental health, allied health, Aboriginal health, peer work, and care navigation, works in partnership with the entire family unit to ensure both children and their carers are supported. They also assist with care navigation and transitions, helping families access the right services during and after their time at the Hub.
Do I need to come in for appointments? After an initial assessment at the Kids Hub, the team can meet with you at a location that suits you. This includes your school, home or in the community.
Who Can Refer? The Central Coast Kids Hub is a self referral service. You can self refer via phone or by walking into our friendly hub at Tuggerah.
Eligibility | Any child aged 12 or under who is experiencing mild-moderate mental health or behavioural health challenges can be referred to the Hub.
Exclusion criteria:
• Child is already engaged with an alternate provider
• Child has access to a package of care that addresses the presenting concern (including NDIS)
• Childs needs are not mild-moderate in nature
• Child is not a resident of the Central Coast
