While Mrs Merrilees takes some well-earned long service leave, we're excited to welcome Miss Newey back on Thursdays for the rest of this term.
Students were highly engaged, creating survival structures with Mrs Fuimaono this week.
Partitioning numbers to solve addition and subtraction
How many different ways can you find to solve these problems using partioning (separating by place value)?
*** If Anna has cut 86 pieces of fruit for Breakfast Club and Rhiannon has cut 47, how many pieces of fruit will they have to serve the students?
*** If Aunty Em started with $11,256 in the bank account but donated $150 for each of the 9 students who went to camp, how much money would be left in the bank account?
SUPER CHALLENGE
What other strategies could you use to solve these same problems? For example, rounding, compensation (give from one side to the other), equal difference (adding the same to each side) etc.
Can you identify the main theme in these well-known texts?
