Our dedicated teachers are working hard on preparing student reports, which will be sent home on Friday Week 9. This is a great opportunity to reflect on your child’s progress and achievements throughout the term.
A standards-referenced approach is used to report student achievement in NSW. Achievement standards are based on what students are expected to learn and how well they have achieved. A to E grade scales describe how well students have achieved in Year 1-6. Teachers make professional on-balance judgments to decide which grade description best matches the standards their students have achieved at a particular point-in-time. These decisions are based on evidence of achievement and information teachers have collected during the teaching and learning. There is no requirement for a grade in Kindergarten. It is important to discuss your child's progress with the class teacher to understand if they are achieving at grade expected level.
Following the distribution of reports, we invite you to attend our Parent-Teacher Interviews on Wednesday 2nd July in the hall from 3:40 PM to 7:00 PM. This is an important time for you to meet with your child’s teachers to discuss their development and any questions you may have. Bookings for the interviews can be made through the School Bytes app in the coming weeks. We encourage all parents to take advantage of this opportunity to engage with our teaching staff and support your child's learning journey.
We are thrilled to share the latest updates from our Little Kindy program! Our littlest learners have been exploring, discovering, and growing through engaging activities that ignite their curiosity and creativity.
This rotation, Little Kindy students have helped their teachers read Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. They turned themselves into ferocious Lion's using paper plates and coloured paper. Afterwards, students had time to build friendships with new peers and explore the library and play with safari animals.
A big thank you goes to our preschool educators and parents who have made our Little Kindy program possible. We can't wait to see all our new friends back over the next sessions to learn about The very hungry caterpillar!

Understanding the NCCD - What Parents Need to Know
Each year, all Australian schools participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on students with disability. This helps identify students receiving adjustments so they can access learning on the same basis as others. The data supports improved teaching, funding decisions, and ensures every student receives the help they need.
The NCCD:
Counts students receiving adjustments due to disability
Ensures support is tailored and consistent
Helps schools review and improve learning support

On June 16, The Oaks Public School celebrated National Walk Safely to School Day with a fun twist—Dress Like a Pirate Day!
It was fantastic to see so many creative and adventurous pirate outfits roaming the playground. We were so impressed by the effort our students put into their costumes and, more importantly, by their growing awareness and positive attitude toward road safety.
This term, we’ll continue exploring road safety and encouraging safe travel practices. A big well done to all students who created a map of their journey from home to school—they were clever, creative, and thoughtfully designed!
Regular attendance has countless benefits for your child’s learning and development. Parents play an important role in ensuring students get to school and stay in school every day. The more your child attends school the greater their opportunity to learn, create social connections and improve their wellbeing.
What you can do
Building positive attendance habits
You can help build positive attendance habits by:
helping your child learn the importance of punctuality and routine
making sure your child arrives on time from the start of the school day, ready to take part
reducing disruption to learning where you can, by planning any necessary appointments outside of school time
contacting your school to explain any absences (within 7 days of the first day of any absence)
making sure any holidays or medical appointments are taken outside school hours
working with the school to encourage and support regular attendance.
Reasons for missing school
Being absent, late or leaving early
If your child misses school for any reason, please contact the school within 7 days to explain why.
If your child needs to arrive late or leave early, please notify the school. If you have difficulty getting your child to school on time every day, please also contact your school. School staff are here to support you and your child to help them come to school.
Getting your school’s help and support
If you are concerned about your child's attendance at school or any other issues that may affect their attendance please speak with the school. It is important that schools and families work together to find solutions to improve attendance.
Every parent has trouble getting their child out of bed and off to school now and then. However, if your child is regularly asking to stay home and seems upset or worried about school, it could be a sign of a bigger problem, particularly if your child:
seems upset or worried about going to school
refuses to go to school, and always asks to stay home
has a history of school refusal in the past.
School refusal, also known as ‘school avoidance’ or ‘school can’t’, is different to ‘wagging’ or ‘jigging’ because it stems from a child’s anxiety about school. Many children and young people will express a reluctance to go to school at different times. For a small number of these children and young people, the difficulties around attending school escalates to become school refusal. School refusal occurs across all ages, genders, ethnic groups, and income groups.
Talk to your child about school refusal
If you are dealing with school refusal, try speaking to your child about what’s been happening and how they are experiencing.
Talk to your school about school refusal
Work with the school and your child. It will give your child the best chance of overcoming their anxieties about school. Focus on trying to make school a structured and predictable part of your child's life.
You could talk to your child's teacher, year coordinator, deputy principal or the wellbeing staff.
Seeking professional help
Make an appointment with your GP. The GP may refer your child to a mental health professional such as a counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist. A mental health professional will help your child to learn skills to deal with their anxiety about going to school.

This term, we’re putting a spotlight on writing across the school! From crafting imaginative stories to persuasive arguments and informative texts, our students are developing their skills and finding their voices through writing.
Writing helps build confidence, creativity, and clear communication and we’re excited to showcase some amazing work from our students. You’ll see a variety of writing pieces from different year levels that highlight their effort, growth, and unique perspectives.

Sydney Writers Festival
Early on Tuesday 27 May eleven excited students boarded the train headed to the Sydney Writers' Festival at Town Hall. All students were extremely well behaved and enjoyed, not only listening to several interesting authors, but also the amazing architecture of the building. We heard from Jeff Kinney, Terri Libenson, Joel McKerrow, Jared Thomas and Katrina Nannestad. Katrina was especially interesting for our stage three students as they have been reading her book, Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief in class this term. A big thanks to Mrs Lollback who accompanied us on the day, her knowledge of the area and navigational skills were very much appreciated.
Grandparents Join Us for National Simultaneous Storytime Celebration & Our Annual Bookfair!
We were thrilled to welcome so many grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles to The Oaks Public School for National Simultaneous Storytime. Our band, choir, and Stage 3 students performed a wonderful piece inspired by the book The Truck Cat, bringing the story to life for all to enjoy.
It was truly special to share this day of celebration with our extended school family!
At the same time, our Book Fair was buzzing in the hall. Thanks to everyone’s incredible support, we sold nearly $8,000 worth of books! This fantastic achievement means we now have over $2,000 to refresh our library with the latest novels and literature for our students.
A huge thank you to all who came along, participated, and helped make this event so successful. Your involvement makes our school community stronger and more vibrant!

An important part of what we do in the P&C is support the school in raising funds for items identified as a need or benefit to the school and the students that will expand and support opportunities within learning and wellbeing. So far this year, we have organised the Easter Raffle, Election BBQ and Mother’s Day stall which has generated a total of $3459. We truly appreciate the support of our community in making events like these happen. The time you donate to the successful running of these events, both the organisation that happens prior to the event and to our volunteers on the day, is truly valued.

The students had an amazing time dancing, laughing, and making memories with friends—all thanks to your support. We successfully raised $1400 and couldn’t have done it without our volunteers, teachers and community!
A special shout-out to Zing Activ for hosting such a fun and engaging event! Your team brought the energy and made the night one to remember.
Thank you all for helping create such a joyful experience for our students!
