What will I learn?

You will:

  • learn the word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

  • follow instructions to learn complex hand action sequences

  • challenge yourself to perform the song 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' in time to the music

  • explore communicating using basic Auslan.

Before you begin

For this challenge, you will need:

  • space to move around safely

  • a phone, camera or other device to record your challenge

  • lots of concentration and patience!

  1. Challenge

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is a song from the 1964 Disney musical film, Mary Poppins. The word was made up by the Sherman Brothers who were the songwriters for the film.

Mary Poppins proclaimed it as a word for "something to say when you have nothing to say".

This mouthful of nonsensical syllables gives us a great challenge to master!

Are you ready for that challenge?

Before we begin, watch the students from the 2011 Schools Spectacular as they perform their version of the song 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'.

Pay particular attention to the section where they spell out the word (after the two-minute mark).

2. Learn

Now it is your turn to learn the actions for the word: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

The version of the actions you will learn is from the Broadway musical adaptation of Mary Poppins.

Good luck!

Watch the video and repeat until you feel confident with the actions.

Perhaps you can get others around you to learn with you.
