The following activities include examples of activities you could explore with your VET entertainment students.
provide students with an opportunity to view a recorded live performance.
apply theoretical safety knowledge and understanding to a live production and create a detailed risk assessment.
analyse the use of lighting and how it was designed and operated for the production.
discuss the production management involved throughout the pre-production, production and post-production processes.
explore the staging of the production, including set design and use of props.
analyse the producer's role when obtaining copyright, budgeting, casting, promotion etc
explore all technical documents to create plans based on the NIDA venue through their technical specifications available.
Theatre plans and technical specifications are available on the NIDA website for use with students.
Explore the lighting information (pages 5-7) in the Parade Studio Technical Specifications for the venue of the production.
Discuss the processes the various lighting personnel would have gone through to create the lighting for this play. Consider the types of lights required to create the various lighting states, the power considerations, accessories required and any safety considerations.
Using the Parade Studio Venue Plan create a lighting plot/plan using the standard lighting rig provided in the venue with any additional lights required within the power restrictions.
Explore the stage information (pages 3-4) in the Parade Studio Technical Specifications for the venue of the production:
Create a scale drawing of the stage plan.
Discuss the staging of this production, including the use of set and props.
What safety elements need to be considered for the set of this production?
Draw the set as a design plan based on the stage dimensions in the technical specifications and the scale stage plan you created.
Create the different set designs for the scenes when additional set was put on the stage.
Discuss the processes a stage crew would undertake throughout the production to ensure the staging was successful.
This NSW PS Drama Company production of 'Macbeth' had an 8 week production schedule leading up to the 2 weeks of performances.
Create a production schedule using the template including the roles of the set and costume designers, stage manager, lighting team, and audio team and the technical production manager.
Bump in to the theatre requires tight scheduling from the technical and stage managers. Discuss the processes involved when bumping in the set for this specific production.
There are many reports that need to be completed throughout a stage production. These include rehearsal, bump in, bump out, performance and incident reports. Explore the various report templates and apply to your own future productions.
