What will your students learn?
Your students will:
utilise a variety of spatial, temporal and dynamic features in a dance
explore dance technique in the performance of both contemporary and hip hop dance combinations
perform sequences with increasing fluency, precision and articulation
apply the language of dance to describe movements that explore space, time and dynamics
celebrate resilience in the arts in 2020.

Dance 7-10 Syllabus
4.1.1: demonstrates an understanding of safe dance practice and appropriate dance technique in the performance of combinations, sequences and dances.
4.1.3: demonstrates an understanding of aspects of performance quality through the performance of locomotor and non-locomotor combinations, sequences and dances.
5.1.1: demonstrates an understanding of safe dance practice and appropriate dance technique with increasing skill and complexity in the performance of combinations, sequences and dances.
5.1.3: demonstrates an understanding and application of aspects of performance quality and interpretation through performance.
Dance Stage 6 Syllabus
P1.3: develops the skills of dance through performing, composing and appreciating dance.
P2.5: performs combinations, phrases and sequences with due consideration of safe dance practices.
H2.2: performs dance skills with confidence, commitment, focus, consistency, performance quality and with due consideration of safe dance practices.
Suggested student reflection
Dance technique
Dance technique is an important part of dance performance.
Discuss your ability to maintain correct body alignment and placement while executing both the contemporary and the hip hop dance tutorials.
Evaluate the role of strength, flexibility and coordination in acquiring dance technique, in relation to the contemporary and the hip hop dance tutorials you have completed.
Record yourself performing the movement sequence.
Watch your recorded performance.
Reflect on your ability as a dancer to:
demonstrate the use of safe dance practice in the execution of the two dance styles
perform the different qualities in timing and articulation required of contemporary and hip hop dance styles
explore the different use of space in each style.
In your answers, use appropriate dance terminology when describing dance technique, performance quality and safe dance practice.
Suggestions for how to use this resource with your students
Collection of student work
Google Form: create a Google Form with activities and/or questions, as well as, the ability for your students to upload of any files they create. Email this form to your students with the link to the Creative Class and all your student responses will be collated in a google sheet.
Google Classroom Assignment: create an assignment or a quiz in your classes Google Classroom with activities and/or questions, as well as, the ability for your students to upload any files they create.
MS Teams: create a quiz or an assignment in your class team drive where students can submit responses and upload any files they create.
Email: instruct your students to email you any responses and files they create.
Flipgrid: a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.
Jamboard: an interactive whiteboard which can be used as a feedback board for you and your students to use.
