Resource overview and purpose

Video and projection can be used to communicate with your school community. Some examples of different events and programs where this can be useful include:

  • school assemblies

  • presentation day

  • year group or stage meetings

  • student workshops

  • guest speaker presentation

  • parent information sessions

  • music, art, dance and drama nights

  • school concert

  • school musical

  • HSC music, dance or drama performances

  • visual art exhibitions

  • external performances for students.

How did this activity address the standard descriptors? - Developing knowledge on how to use technical production equipment effectively for a school assembly or arts event. The Arts Unit developed this resource to upgrade the knowledge and skills of teachers in the specific areas of safety, lighting, audio, staging ad video streaming.

Before you begin

When working with video on your event there are fundamental contextual questions you need to clarify:

  • What video and/or projection equipment is needed?

  • Who will be operating the video and/or projection equipment?

  • Where is the video and/or projection equipment being set up and used? (for example: specific venue type and size).

  • When is the video recording and or projection occurring? (for example: day or night).

  • Who is the audience for the video and/or projection? (for example: audience demographic and size).

  • What is the nature of the video and/or projection? (for example: video images or PowerPoint images from a computer).

  • What is the video being captured going to be used for?

  • If video streaming, what is the internet connection and service strength available at the time of video streaming?

  • If you are live streaming your video what streaming platform will you use (For example: Brightcove, YouTube, Facebook).
