It's so lovely to be back in the seat! Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome home, it truly means so much to return to such a caring community. A very special thank you to Sarah, who did a wonderful job as relieving principal in my absence. She kept things running so beautifully, and I am so grateful for her leadership.

We have a busy term ahead, with lots of exciting opportunities and events on the calendar, so let's dive into everything that's been happening!

Education Week

What a wonderful success Education Week was! Our families were so positive about the whole experience, and it was a joy to see everyone come together and celebrate our school.

The Book Parade kicked things off in style, and the fun and creativity from our students was just delightful to see. A huge well done to Mrs Moncarda, our librarian, for all her work on the Book Fair and Book Parade, and to Mrs Penman for her wonderful support.

Our Showcase Assembly was truly incredible, a real tribute to public education. Our junior dancers, K–2 choir and senior dancers were all amazing, and it was wonderful having Ambarval High School join us to perform as well.

Open Classrooms gave us a beautiful opportunity to celebrate academic achievement and high expectations, and to see the Plan for Public Education come to life in our everyday classrooms. We are so proud of our talented students and everything they continue to achieve.

Wollondilly Performing Arts

This year marked the first time Appin Public School has performed at Wollondilly Performing Arts, and what an occasion it was! The event was completely sold out, and it was a fantastic opportunity for our K–2 students to shine in the creative arts space. Thank you to Mrs Keir, Mrs Lewis and Mrs Earnshaw for all their hard work and dedication in making this happen. It was a wonderful moment for our school.

Guitar Club going from strength to strength

Guitar Club has been such a hit that Mr Piper has had to split the lunchtime sessions to make room for all the eager young musicians! We were also thrilled to have our Guitar Club chosen as the Awesome Foundation Sydney's "Awesome Project of the Month" in April. This generous grant, together with school funds, has allowed us to purchase additional guitars so even more children can take part. What a fantastic vote of confidence in our students and our creative arts program.

Staying connected

We want to share a little more about how we're approaching communication with families this year. We'll be continuing with our termly teacher check-ins, which might take the form of a phone call, an after-school catch-up, or a morning touch-base, whatever suits best. Because we value having more than one meaningful connection with families across the year, we won't be holding formal parent-teacher interviews in Term 3. Communication with your child's teacher is ongoing, and we'd rather it happen little and often, in whatever way works for your family, than be limited to one formal meeting a year. Of course, if you'd ever like to arrange a chat with your child's teacher, you are always welcome to call the office and we'll happily find a time that suits.

On the topic of communication, we'd also like to gently raise something with our community. When children come home from school, they naturally share their perspective on what's happened during the day, and it's important to remember this is their perception and interpretation of events, which may not always reflect the full picture. We understand it's only natural to feel protective of your child, and we would never want you to feel otherwise. What we would ask is that, however a concern is raised with us, including if it's written with the help of AI, it comes through in a respectful and constructive way. This is something we are seeing more and more of, and we want to be upfront with our community that a respectful tone matters just as much as the message itself, however it is written. We truly want the very best for every child, and we know our families do too. The best outcomes always come from a genuine conversation, so please know our doors are always open, come in and chat with us any time as we are on the same team.

Athletics Carnival

What a wonderful day it was at Campbelltown Sports Ground for our Athletics Carnival! Despite a fairly windy day, our students showed such great spirit, and congratulations to every one of them for getting involved. A special congratulations to Mrs Duggan on such a well-organised event and a big shout out to all our parent volunteers.

Ribbons for our 3–6 students will be presented at the 3–6 assembly on Friday, 21st August (Week 5), and our Year 2 students who placed at the primary carnival will receive theirs at their assembly on Friday, 28th August (Week 6). It's always a lovely bonus for our Year 2s to have the chance to take part in the Primary Carnival alongside their own K–2 event, if they choose to.

Our K–2 Carnival was just as successful, with our younger students having a ball with the rotation activities and running races. It was so lovely to see so many families there cheering them on. Thank you to Mrs Keir and Miss Mason for their wonderful organisation of the day.

Camden Network Meeting

This week I attended the Camden Network meeting, joining principals from across our area at the Wollondilly Heritage Centre in The Oaks. It's a beautiful venue and well worth a visit, and we'll certainly be looking at it for future excursions.

These network meetings give school leaders a chance to come together, share ideas and discuss the Plan for Public Education and how we embed it within our School Excellence Plan. This time, our focus areas were student attendance, the anti-bullying framework, and excellence and equity. We'll share more on these as things progress, through future newsletters and at P&C meetings.

Looking ahead to 2027

We're halfway through Term 3 already, the year really is flying! We're beginning our planning conversations for 2027, so if your family is moving out of the area or won't be returning to Appin next year, please do let us know. And if you're enrolling a child in Kindergarten, or know another family in the area who is, we'd love for them to get in touch soon. Our school community continues to grow as our area develops, and we love welcoming new families into the Appin PS family.

Kindergarten Kookaburras

🐦 A Fantastic Start to Term 3!

What an amazing, fun and busy start to Term 3 we have had in Kookaburra! Our classroom has been filled with exciting learning, celebrations and plenty of opportunities to explore, create and challenge ourselves.

We began the term by exploring the much loved story Wombat Stew. We learnt about the characters and investigated how verbs add important information to a story and help to engage the audience. Our clever Kookaburras then created their own sentences about adding exciting ingredients to their very own wombat stew. Some of our creations were ewwy, gooey and scrumptious – depending on which animal you asked!

Our learning continued with an investigation into the fascinating platypus. We discovered where platypuses live, what they eat and the special features that help them survive in their environment. We used our new knowledge to create informative sentences accompanied by detailed illustrations.

In Mathematics, we have been busy exploring collections of 10 and friends of 10. We also learnt a new game called Zap! to practise our backwards counting skills from 40, it certainly brought lots of excitement to our mathematics lessons! We have also developed our understanding of repeating patterns, creating and extending AB and AABB patterns.

Of course, Term 3 has also brought some very special celebrations! 🎉 Our 100 Days of Learning celebration gave us the opportunity to imagine what the world might look like 100 years into the future. We loved seeing all the creative and futuristic ideas our Kindergarten students brought to life.

During Education Week, our Book Parade was another highlight. We dressed as some of our favourite book characters and celebrated our love of reading and all the wonderful learning taking place in our classrooms. 📚

Most recently, our Kookaburras had the opportunity to showcase their sporting skills at the K–2 Athletics Carnival. It was a fantastic day filled with participation, encouragement, teamwork and lots of fun. We were so proud to see students having a go and demonstrating some wonderful new skills.

We have certainly packed a lot into the beginning of Term 3, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the term brings. We are excited to continue learning, growing and having fun together in Kookaburra! 💚💛

Kindergarten Possums

Kindergarten Possums have certainly made the most of the first few weeks of Term 3!

During Literacy, our learning has been guided by Wombat Stew and Clancy & Millie and the Very Fine House. These texts have provided many opportunities to strengthen our reading and writing skills while building our understanding of characters, events and new vocabulary. The Possums have especially enjoyed bringing stories to life through dramatic role-play, taking on the roles of familiar characters and acting out important parts of each story.

Our Mathematics lessons have seen us building our number knowledge through friends of 10, as well as investigating patterns in many different ways. Students have created and continued patterns using animals, insects, actions, body movements and repeated sounds. Finding patterns beyond numbers has encouraged the Possums to look closely, make predictions and explain what should come next.

There has been plenty happening beyond the classroom too. Reaching 100 Days of Learning was a wonderful milestone for Kindergarten, while Book Week gave everyone the chance to celebrate stories and reading while showing off an amazing collection of colourful and creative costumes.

The K-2 Athletics Carnival was another highlight this week. The Possums enthusiastically took part in their races before moving through the field events, where they were able to challenge themselves and try a variety of activities.

It has been fantastic to watch the Kindergarten Possums embrace so many different learning experiences and continue to grow in confidence as Term 3 progresses!

What a busy and exciting start to Term 3 it has been for the Kindergarten Emus!

In Literacy, we have been learning new sounds and developing our reading and writing skills through our focus text, Wombat Stew. The students have loved exploring the story, learning new vocabulary and creating their own writing inspired by the text.

In Mathematics, we have been exploring friends of 10 and learning about growing patterns. We have been using hands-on activities, games and lots of mathematical thinking to develop our number knowledge and problem-solving skills.

We have also been busy celebrating 100 Days of Learning, Book Week and Education Week! During these special events, we enjoyed exciting science experiments and STEM challenges, giving students opportunities to explore, investigate, create and solve problems.

To top it all off, we participated in the K–2 Athletics Carnival, where our Kindergarten students had a fantastic time participating in a range of activities. It was wonderful to see everyone having a go, encouraging their friends and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship.

Stage 1 Quokka

The Quokkas have had a busy and exciting start to Term 3, with many wonderful learning opportunities taking place both inside and outside the classroom.

A highlight of Education Week was our Book Parade and Literacy Day. Students worked together to co-construct a class narrative before transforming it into a script by adding dialogue. They then collaborated in small groups to bring their stories to life through performance. It was fantastic to see the students' creativity, teamwork and growing confidence on display.

In Mathematics, the Quokkas became data detectives, collecting information from every class across the school to discover which playground equipment students preferred. We represented our findings using graphs and then used the data to design our own class playgrounds. The students enjoyed seeing how mathematics can be used to solve real-world problems and inform decision-making.

We also loved welcoming parents and carers into our classroom during Open Classroom. Students were proud to share their learning and were delighted to receive thoughtful compliments from their family members and friends about their work and achievements.

In Science, we have been exploring weather and temperature. Students learnt how to read a thermometer and used one to measure the temperature of our classroom, which was 21°C. We then investigated how friction can create heat by warming the thermometer in our hands and observing the temperature rise to 29°C. Students also enjoyed measuring the temperature of ice blocks as part of our investigations.

In PD/H/PE, we have been developing our kicking skills and learning about the importance of child protection. It has been wonderful to see the Quokkas approach all areas of their learning with enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to challenge themselves.

Stage 1 Gliders

We have hit the ground running in Gliders Class, with plenty of exciting events taking place during the first four weeks of Term 3!

A highlight for our students was welcoming our parents and carers into the classroom to share and celebrate all of our fantastic learning during Education Week. It was wonderful to see the students proudly showing their families the work they have been doing and sharing their learning experiences.

In Week 3, our Glider students had their very own assembly showcase, where they shared what we have been learning about during our phonics lessons. The students absolutely loved learning the nonsense song ‘Mr Clickety Cane’ and were excited to discover that Miss Kennedy also performed this song during her own time at primary school! It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to showcase their confidence, learning and enthusiasm in front of our school community.

Year 1 students have been working incredibly hard on their phonics skills with the Phonics Screener coming up in the next couple of weeks - they have truly blown me away and I have seen so much growth in their phonics knowledge. A big shout out to our Year 2 Gliders as well. They have been challenging themselves and extending their vocabulary as they create persuasive texts and posters. I have been so impressed by the sophisticated, tiered vocabulary they are incorporating into their writing. Some of the words I have spotted in their work include biodegradable, extinction, devastating, marine life and fragile. It has been fantastic to see our students confidently applying new vocabulary words.

The Athletics Carnivals (2-6 and K-2) were an absolute highlight. I am really proud of our Year 1 and 2 students for their hard work, dedication and sportsmanship during the carnivals.

Stage 1 Bilby

We have had a busy start to Term 3 in Bilby Class! We loved showcasing our learning with our families during Public Education Week and sharing all the wonderful things we have been working on in our classroom. We also had a fun-filled week exploring literacy, mathematics and science, including some very exciting hands-on slime experiments and creative activities!

Our classroom came alive during Book Week, with the Bilbies looking amazing in their wonderful costumes. It was heartwarming to see so many students excited about books and engaged in reading. We have also been enjoying a book study of The Adventures of the Wishing Chair. Students have imagined where they would travel in their very own wishing chair, writing about their magical destinations and creating beautiful artwork to bring their ideas to life.

In Literacy, our Year 1 students have been working incredibly hard to develop their phonics skills. With the Phonics Screening Check coming up in the next couple of weeks, it has been wonderful to see the growth they have made in their phonics knowledge. We are so proud of their hard work and persistence! The Athletics Carnivals (2–6 and K–2) were a huge hit! Our Bilbies demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, perseverance and enthusiasm throughout the events. They encouraged one another, celebrated each other's achievements and represented our school with pride. Well done, Bilbies!

Stage 1 Lorikeet

Term 3 has already given the Lorikeets plenty to learn, create and enjoy together.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on persuasive writing, learning how to clearly express an opinion and support it with convincing reasons. We are putting these skills into practice through our “Mr P Project”. To welcome Mr Pincock back to the classroom on Thursdays and Fridays, every student is creating their own persuasive piece before recording it as part of a special class podcast for him. It has given the students a real audience and purpose for their writing.

In Mathematics, our focus has been on number sense and grouping numbers in different ways. Students have been working with number patterns, subitising, counting and combining quantities through hands-on activities, games and mathematical discussion. We have been encouraging students to explain not only their answers, but the different strategies they used to find them.

Music has also been an important part of our term. I was very proud of the Lorikeets for performing at our Education Week Assembly. We are now working towards another performance in Week 6, where the students will sing “Let’s Sing” in harmony. Hearing them learn to listen to one another and hold their different parts has been great to watch.

For Sport, we have been learning and playing Tee Ball, with some very enjoyable games as students develop their throwing, catching, striking and teamwork. The Lorikeets also had a great time at the Athletics Carnival, participating enthusiastically across the different events.

It has been lovely getting to know the Lorikeets this term and seeing the different strengths, interests and personalities they bring to our classroom.

Stage 1 Turtles

1/2 Turtles have had a fantastic start to Term 3, with lots of exciting learning and special events taking place over the past four weeks!

Education Week was a wonderful highlight, with our students enjoying a range of engaging activities across our Book Parade, Literacy Day, Numeracy and Science Day. It was fantastic to welcome our families and carers into the classroom and give them the opportunity to see the wonderful learning taking place in Turtles. The students were very excited to share their work and show their families some of the activities they have been enjoying in class.

In English, students have continued to develop their reading, writing and vocabulary skills through engaging texts and phonics lessons. They have been working hard to apply their knowledge of sounds and spelling patterns, while continuing to build confidence in expressing their ideas through writing.

In Mathematics, students have been developing their number sense and exploring numbers, patterns and strategies to help them solve mathematical problems. We have been encouraging students to explain their thinking and look for different ways to represent and solve problems.

The Year 2–6 Athletics Carnival was another highlight this week. I was incredibly proud of our Year 2 students for their enthusiasm, effort and participation throughout the day. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, trying their best and enjoying being part of the carnival. We are now looking forward to the K–2 Athletics Carnival later this week, where our Year 1 and 2 Turtles will have another opportunity to get involved and showcase their skills.

We are also very excited to welcome Healthy Harold to Appin Public School next week. The students are looking forward to this special visit and the opportunity to learn more about making healthy and positive choices.

Prime Minister Learning Walks

The Prime Minister’s Stamp of Approval

Leadership at Appin Public School is not simply about wearing a badge or holding a title. It is about serving others and making a positive difference. Our School Prime Minister Billie T is bringing this idea to life through weekly Learning Walks across our Kindergarten to Year 2 classrooms.

Each Friday, Billie visits our younger students and works alongside small groups during reading, mathematics and other classroom activities. She listens to students read, supports their learning and provides encouragement as they tackle new challenges. Her calm and caring approach is helping our youngest learners feel confident, valued and excited to share their work.

One especially popular part of each visit is Billie’s official Prime Minister stamp. Students proudly receive Billie’s stamp of approval when they demonstrate effort, persistence and pride in their learning. It is more than a fun reward. It recognises that improvement matters and reminds students that their hard work is noticed and celebrated.

Through these visits, Billie is developing her own confidence, communication and leadership skills while strengthening connections between our youngest and oldest students. She is modelling that genuine leadership is built through service, encouragement and positive action.

Billie’s Learning Walks are a wonderful example of student leadership in action. We are incredibly proud of the way she is using her role to inspire others and make a meaningful contribution across our school.

🐨 Positive Behaviour for Learning

Over the holidays, Appin Public School underwent a bit of a facelift! We have been working with Scribble Signs to create brand-new signage to be displayed around our school, linked to our PBL values of being Safe, Respectful and Learners, as well as our PBL Matrix.

This language was explored earlier in the year during our inaugural PBL Matrix Day, where students moved around different areas of the school to learn how they can meet behavioural expectations in each setting.

The language featured on our new signs is concise, consistent and purposeful, using “I” statements to clearly communicate what expected behaviour looks and sounds like. This helps students take ownership of their choices and provides a consistent language for staff to reinforce positive behaviours across all areas of our school.

Our new signage will help make our PBL expectations visible, accessible and easy for all students to understand and apply throughout the school day. A big thank you to Matthew at Scribble Signs!

🏆 K-1 HPG Sport Group

Small Steps, Big Gains: K/1 HPG Sports Group

There has been plenty of energy, excitement and determination on display in our Kindergarten and Year 1 Sports Group!

This targeted program gives students the opportunity to develop essential fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching and balancing through a fun and supportive small group environment. Each session combines explicit teaching with purposeful games and challenges that help students build coordination, confidence and a positive attitude towards physical activity.

While the smiles and laughter are easy to see, the learning behind every activity is significant. Students are practising how to listen, follow instructions, persevere when a skill is challenging, work cooperatively and celebrate the success of others. These foundations support future participation in sport as well as students’ wellbeing, resilience and readiness to learn.

Mr Earnshaw is already seeing students take greater risks, encourage one another and proudly recognise their own improvement. Most importantly, they are discovering that success is not about being the fastest or strongest. It is about having a go, practising with purpose and becoming better each time.

Our youngest athletes are proving that small steps can lead to big gains. We cannot wait to see where their growing confidence and skills take them next!

🏃APS Sport

The 800m athletics race will be held on the school oval, Tuesday, 18 August.

Students will compete in three age categories:

Juniors: U/8, U/9 and U/10
11 Years: U/11
Seniors: U/12 and U/13

Students will be grouped according to their age category, with races conducted at school during the school day. Students who place in the top three in their 800m event will receive a ribbon at the next school assembly to recognise their achievement.

This event will run throughout the day by Miss Duggan, there will be no spectators.

K-2 Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday of Week 4, our K–2 students enjoyed a fantastic Athletics Carnival! It was a fun-filled day with students participating in a range of athletic activities and challenges. It was wonderful to see everyone demonstrating enthusiasm, persistence and a willingness to have a go. Students also showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the day by encouraging their peers, celebrating each other's achievements and demonstrating respect. A big thank you to our staff and Year 6 Sports Leaders for helping to organise and run the activities and supporting our younger students throughout the day. Their encouragement and enthusiasm helped make the carnival such a success. It was fantastic to see our K–2 students getting active, challenging themselves, supporting one another and, most importantly, having fun! We are very proud of the way they participated and represented our school.

K-2 Dance Group

We are incredibly proud of the 28 Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students who represented our school at the Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival. The students performed their dance to Dynamite, which they had been rehearsing throughout the semester, generously giving up their lunchtimes and recesses to practise and perfect their performance. For many of our students, this was their first opportunity to perform in front of such a large audience, making the event a very special and memorable experience. We were so proud of the confidence, enthusiasm and maturity they demonstrated both on and off the stage. A huge thank you also goes to our wonderful parents and caregivers for supporting the students by helping with hair and makeup and ensuring they could attend the evening performance at Picton High School. Your support made the experience possible and truly special for our students. We could not be prouder of them!

4-6 Dance Group

What an incredible experience for our Senior Dance Group, who recently represented Appin Public School at the Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival at Picton High School! Our students shone on stage, performing Baby I’m a Star/Million $ Show with energy, confidence and enthusiasm. Their teachers were incredibly proud of every performer and the way they represented our school.

A special congratulations to Brody and Orlando, who did a fantastic job representing Appin Public School as comperes for both performances.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parents and carers for supporting the organisation of the festival and ensuring our dancers arrived looking polished and performance-ready. Your support was greatly appreciated!

The Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival was a fun, active, inclusive experience. I wish I could do it again because I saw so many different perspectives of dance and saw so many excited faces before I went on stage.

I have been in so many different experiences in different groups, teams and sports. I only have four reasons to join new things.

One…Have fun

Three…Make friends

Four…Try new things

But back to the subject. The dancing took me to a whole new world. When I was dancing with all my friends I felt connected to the audience. When I saw people smiling and having a good time I felt like I was doing an amazing job.

The costumes looked so magical underneath the different coloured lights.

The song we danced to was ‘Baby I’m a Star’. Our amazing teachers, Scarlett and the APS teacher Mrs Earnshaw choreographed the dance. What I most enjoyed is representing Appin Public School.

Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival

The Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival 2026 was a fun dance experience. I really enjoyed learning about how a dance team can really work together as a group to make an amazing dance. This year has taken me on a huge journey.

I have seen so many different perspectives of dance. A team means not just dancing on a stage doing the same movements every minute, but working together corporately. This year I think we have worked really well as a team.

Our costumes looked so good on stage with all the different coloured lights. We loved performing and hearing all the songs.

A big thank you to Miss Scarlett the choreographer of this amazing dance and Mrs Earnshaw who is the Appin PS dance teacher and organised everything for Appin Public School.

☄️100 Days of Learning in Kindergarten

🚀 100 Years into the Future! 🌟

Woohoo! Our Kindergarten students have officially been at school for 100 days! 🎉

In Week 2, our Kindergarten students celebrated this very special milestone with our exciting theme, “100 Years into the Future!” The morning was filled with creativity, laughter and plenty of futuristic fun as students shared their ideas about what the world might look like 100 years from now. We welcomed aliens, space travellers, futuristic characters and even some very convincing 100-year-olds! 👽🚀👵

Our Kindergarten students proudly invited parents, grandparents and friends into their classrooms to showcase just how much they have learnt during their first 100 days of school. Students demonstrated their growing Literacy and Numeracy skills by reading to their special visitors and playing engaging mathematics games involving addition and number skills.

The celebrations continued with a fabulous 100 Days catwalk, where students modelled their amazing costumes and showed off their wonderful Kindergarten spirit. We then gathered together in the hall for an enjoyable morning tea with our families and friends.

It was wonderful to celebrate not only 100 days at school, but also 100 days of learning, growing, making friends, building confidence and creating special memories.

Congratulations to all of our Kindergarten students on reaching this fantastic milestone. We are so proud of everything you have achieved in your first 100 days of school! 💚💛

Term 3 Attendance Update K-2

Our Term 3 attendance data shows strong attendance across Kindergarten to Year 2, with all year groups continuing to perform above our 90% attendance target.

Kindergarten: Attendance remains very strong at approximately 94–95%.
Year 1: Attendance is sitting between 92–94%, showing a positive overall level of attendance.
Year 2: Attendance is particularly strong, ranging from 92–95%, with the highest result across the three year groups.

It is encouraging to see that all year groups are above the 90% target. Regular attendance is essential for students to maintain learning routines, build strong relationships and make consistent progress. Thank you to our families for supporting students to attend school every day they are able to.

K-2 Learning and Support Team

K-2 Cutural Group

At the end of Term 3, our K–2 Cultural Group students proudly presented a fantastic performance at our NAIDOC Week assembly. The students performed a Torres Strait Islander dance to Taba Naba, demonstrating enthusiasm, confidence and wonderful teamwork. They worked hard during Cultural Group sessions to learn and practise the movements, and it was fantastic to see them share their learning with students, staff, families and visitors. We are incredibly proud of every student who participated and represented our Cultural Group so positively.

At the beginning of this term, the students have turned their attention to their individual academic goals. They have been working closely with staff to practise important skills, reflect on their progress and identify the next steps in their learning. It has been wonderful to see their persistence, positive attitudes and growing confidence as they work towards achieving their goals.

Later this term, students will return to their regular Cultural Group sessions and begin an exciting learning focus on bush tucker. They will explore a range of native Australian plants and foods, learn about their traditional uses and develop an understanding of the importance of caring for Country. These sessions will provide students with another valuable opportunity to strengthen their cultural knowledge, share their ideas and learn together. We look forward to sharing more of their learning and achievements throughout the term.

K-2 Class visits

Earlier this term, I was fortunate to visit our Infants classes to introduce students to my role as the Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) and to explore the age-appropriate concepts of ‘What is racism?’ and ‘What can racism look like?’

We shared the lift-the-flap book Standing Up to Racism by Dr Praya Agarwal, which sparked some wonderful discussions about inclusion, kindness, respect and standing up for others.

Our school has also recently purchased a range of engaging, child-friendly books to support our ongoing anti-racism education and promote conversations about diversity, inclusion and belonging.

Working Together to Prevent Bullying

At Appin Public School, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. This term, we are strengthening our Anti-Bullying approach through staff professional learning, explicit lessons for students, consistent reporting and recording of incidents, and regular review of our practices.

In Week 1 of Term 3, students learned what bullying is, how to recognise it, how it can affect others, and how to seek help and report concerns. We encourage families to talk with their children about being kind, respectful and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.

Together, we can help create a positive school community where every child can learn, grow and thrive.

📌 Don't Forget

Thank you to all those who have returned their sponsorship money from our Walkathon held on 24th July, 2026. It is now time to collect the money from your sponsors and return it to school.

Prizes: A $100 gift voucher will be presented to the first five highest fundraisers from K-6. (must raise over $150 to receive a prize). There will also be a “popcorn and movie at school” prize for the class in Infants and the class in Primary earning the most sponsorship money. There will be incentive prizes as well, for students who return their sponsorship money before the due date. We would appreciate all sponsor money being returned to school by Friday, 21st August 2026.

WALKATHON SPONSORSHIP MONEY: When you collect your money from your sponsors, the preferred option is to use the School Bytes App to forward your funds to school.

Simply go to the School Bytes App, Go to Payments, select Add Other Item, select General from the Category drop down, choose Walkathon from the drop down list and enter the amount of your donation. This way a receipt is promptly emailed to you for your records.

This is the preferred option, however, you may still use Eftpos at the office counter or send cash into the office. Thank you in anticipation!!

Thank you to everyone who purchased books and items from our recent Book Fair. We sold just over $5,000.00 worth of books, an amazing effort which means that our school get to keep 25% of sales, which will go towards resources for our School Library.

Updating School

It is very important that we have up to date and correct contact details for our students. If you have a new home address, mobile phone number or email address, please contact our school office to update these details as soon as possible.

Unexplained Absences

Please remember that the NSW Education Act requires that all student absences must be explained within 7 days of the first day of them being away from school. Please contact us promptly whenever your child is absent and let us know the reason for them being away.

A text message will be sent home each day the student has an unexplained absence. Parents have 7 days to reply on the parent portal or contact the school, otherwise unexplained absences become unjustified.

Just a reminder that there is absolutely no parking or pedestrian access through our staff car park at any time. If dropping off or picking up from OOSH, please use the OOSH gate provided. Thank you.

Cooler Weather

With the weather getting cooler, please be sure to send a jacket with your child. PLEASE label all your child's belongings including jackets, jumpers, hats, and coats. Call in to the front office to check if your child's belongings are in the lost and found tub. If they are labelled, we can return items to their rightful owner. Thank you

P & C Meeting

Our next P&C Meeting will be held on 8th September at 6:30pm in the School Staffroom. Everyone is welcome to come. Even if you are new to our school, or have never been before, please come along and see how the P & C contribute to our children. It is a great way to get involved in ways to help our school, meet new people and to be informed of things coming up. Hope to see you there! All welcome!

NB: P & C Meetings will take place in Week 3 & Week 8 each term, on a Tuesday at 6:30pm in the School Staffroom.

P & C Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop is open every Monday, from 8:30am to 9:30am. The Uniform Shop has Eftpos available for payments, as well as cash. Online order form at https://form.jotform/212808469354867 - or scan the QR Code.

Orders will be filled when the shop is open on Monday mornings and left at office for pickup, or given to child if paid by credit card. Full cash payment must accompany orders left at the office, or pay cash on pickup of online order. Prices subject to change, depending upon suppliers.
