Sydney Harbour YHA is a 106 room hostel accommodating a maximum of 354 people. The hostel is owned and operated by YHA Ltd and is located in The Rocks historic precinct in Sydney NSW.
YHA Ltd operates hostels across Australia and is part of the world's largest budget accommodation network, Hosteling International, which provides more than 4,000 YHA/HI hostels in more than 60 countries. Renowned for its unique properties, YHA includes hostels in heritage castles, log cabins and beach houses. A members based organisation, YHA provides travellers with quality accommodation and the opportunity for personal growth through travel, fostering cross-cultural understanding and environmental responsibility.
YHA is a not for profit organisation, with profits re-invested in the accommodation network and the experiences it provides.
Sydney Harbour YHA is positioned at the top of the range of Hostels in Australia and is seen as a flagship (high quality example) hostel in Sydney for the YHA network.
In 2019
Around 60,000 tourists stayed at the hostel, which had an average occupancy of 75%
The hostel had a turnover of over $5m and all profits made were invested back into the YHA accommodation network and the experiences it provides
Approximately 60% of guests were international and 40% domestic
The hostel provided a range of unique tailored guest experiences including guest BBQ's, historical tours and a sold out New Years Eve event on the panoramic rooftop terrace.
Approximately 31 staff were employed (5 full time, 26 part time)

The hostel takes up two city blocks and rises 3 stories above the archaeological site on ground level. It has 106 rooms accommodating a maximum of 354 people. The hotel is elevated above a fragile archaeological site and was designed to have minimum impact on the site. The foundations on which the building is supported impact on less than 2% of the site.

The Rocks Grocer. This is a small shop adjacent to the street level main entry which is leased out by Sydney Harbour YHA to a convenience store business. It is regularly used by guests for food and travel essentials.

As with all YHAs, Sydney Harbour YHA has a relatively flat management structure, in comparison to other accommodation providers. Though staff have regular roles, such as a receptionist or housekeeper, staff are ready to assist the overall team and multi-task to fulfil a range of hostel and guest services. Sydney Harbour YHA also occasionally offers short term ‘volunteer’ roles, assisting the hostel staff in exchange for accommodation.
