Your child's first day of the 2022 school year will be Tuesday 1st February. There will only be new Kindergarten students and their Year 6 buddies attending on this day. The next full day of school for your child will then be Friday 4th February.

• Tuesday 1st Feb: Kindergarten + Year 6 only

• Wednesday 2nd Feb: Best Start appointments (your child will stay at home when not attending their appointment)

• Thursday 3rd Feb: Best Start appointments (your child will stay at home when not attending their appointment)

• Friday 4th Feb: Kindergarten returns

The school day begins at 8:50am and finishes at 2:50pm.

• Crunch and Sip is at 10am for around 10-15 minutes. This is a short break to eat a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable and to have a drink of water. Please pack a refillable water bottle.

• Lunch is from 11:00am until 11:40. Students are supervised in their eating from 11 - 11:10am.

• Recess is from 1:10pm - 1:40pm

At lunch and recess time the children will eat their food in their class area (usually outside the classroom) for 10 mins at lunch and 5 mins at recess. After that there is time for children to play or to finish eating if needed. This means that there are allocated eating times, however your child may not eat everything you send for them.

Update 2/11/21: We are pleased to announce that the DET has modified our Covid restrictions, which will change to Stage 3 as of the 8th of November. This means that our Transition program CAN go ahead as originally planned.

Our Transition dates are as follows:

• Monday 15th November

• Monday 22nd November

• Monday 29th November

Broulee Public School takes the grouping of children into careful consideration before placing them into a class. We liaise with preschool teachers and childcare educators to learn more about friendship groupings and dynamics. It is important to us that every child is placed into a class with a friend and this is the priority of placement.

We also observe the children on their transition visits as they interact with new friends from a range of different preschools and childcare centres.

After a few weeks, we assess how the groupings are going and make any adjustments if deemed necessary or appropriate for your child. Any changes are made in consultation with teachers and parents/carers.

If you have any particular requests for the friendship grouping of your child, outside of what the preschool/childcare may advise, please contact the school office at your earliest convenience to discuss this.

Your child will work with both Kindergarten teachers during their first week of school. You will be notified of your child's class teacher at the end of the first week of school, all ready to start in his/her class home base on Monday the 7th February.

At this stage, the Kindergarten teachers have not been finalised.

We recommend meeting your child at the back gate of our school. The back gate opens up to Captain Oldrey Park where there is wide open space for the them to spot and run to you. It is a very safe option for pick up, clear of roads and congestion. There is ample parking, a field and a playground. The children are walked to the back gate with one of our teachers and are held at the gate until we see you.

The front gate is also an option, however parking is very limited.

Your child can catch the bus to and from school whenever you feel that they are ready. We recommend waiting at least a few weeks for them to settle in to the routines of school, although if they have a sibling, they may like to catch the bus with them sooner.

On arrival at school, your child will walk from the bus in through the front gates of the school unassisted. However, they will be walked to bus lines in the afternoon and guided onto the correct bus for their journey home.

Priors Bus Service runs from Maloneys/Long Beach, along the coast and through Dunn's Creek Road and Mogo and out to Moruya. For further information on Priors school buses, and to apply for a bus pass, please refer to their website here.

Marshall's Bus Service runs out to Moruya, South Head, Congo, Tuross and Bodalla. For further information on Marshalls school buses, and to apply for a bus pass, please refer to their website here.

There are three after school care providers who service Broulee Public School.

• Broulee After School and Vacation Care is located within the ground of the school. Your child will be walked over to the after school centre if they are to attend. Further information and contact details can be found here.

• Broulee Early Learning Centre Out of School Hours care (OOSH). BELC is located a short walk from the school. Children are collected from inside the school grounds and they walk together as a group after the front gate is cleared of congestion. Further information for BELC OOSH can be found here.

• Broulee Long Day Care Centre is located a short walk from the school. Children are collected from inside the school grounds and walked over to the centre after the front gate is cleared of congestion. Further information can be found here.

Any last minute or unexpected changes to your child's pick up arrangements can be phoned through to the school office on 44716120 before 2:30pm. A message will be taken to your child's classroom and the teacher will act accordingly. Please do not email this change through as teachers do not attend to emails until after school hours.

You will be notified of you child's school house via a note home sometime in the 2nd or 3rd week of school. If your child has an older sibling, they will be in the same house as them.

We openly welcome parent helpers at school after a few weeks of settling in time. It's important that your child knows that school is their place and are comfortable in the setting before you come in. After this period, we love help in any form! Unfortunately current COVID regulations prevent parents from helping within the school - we will let you know as soon as this changes.

All parent/community helpers must complete a Working with Children Check at the front office prior to helping within the school. Alternatively this can be completed online. Under the new NSW Government mandate, all volunteers must also provide evidence of full COVID vaccination.

Our canteen is run by our P & C (Parents and Citizens' Association), managed by a paid staff member and manned by volunteers. There may be different COVID restrictions on helping within the canteen setting - and they very much appreciate help in whatever way it can be provided. Please contact the front office if you would like to assist in the canteen.

We have an active P & C (Parents and Citizens' Association) which is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising. The P & C run the Uniform Shop, support the Canteen and facilitate fundraising events and activities which help inject funds back into the school, classrooms and special events.

The P & C welcome new members - whether it just be attending a meeting from time to time or to get fully involved. Any engagement is greatly appreciated.

Parents need to provide an Immunisation History Statement which is issued by Medicare, once your child has received all vaccines required by 5 years of age.

Students who are not immunised may be excluded from school if there is an outbreak of a communicable disease.

It's a good idea to have your child's eyes and hearing checked prior to starting school. The Community Health Service in Moruya can be contacted on 1800 999 880.

Please provide all details of any medical condition on your child's enrolment form and include any medical/care plans or reports. It is important that all relevant medical records are presented to our office staff upon enrolment.

Should your child require prescribed medication, a form need to be obtained from the front office and completed. It is important to send only the required dosage, clearly labelled in order for staff to administer medication.

Asthma puffers and Epipens need to be clearly labelled and accompanied by a Health Plan signed by a doctor.

Please keep your child at home if they are unwell. School is a very close knit environment and it is important that we protect other students, and staff, from illness.

We now have the Sentral SMS absence notification that goes out at 10am daily. You can either notify us of your child's absence earlier than this by phoning or emailing the school or classroom teacher, or simply respond to the SMS message with details of your child's absence.

There is definitely not a "one size fits all" when it comes to packing school lunches. Some children have a sandwich, fruit, and snack everyday, and others go their entire school life without ever touching a sandwich. Your child's lunch box fillings are only limited by your imagination and their palette.

We find it best to pack a range of small things for your child to eat, as sometimes a big sandwich, roll or wrap can be overwhelming. You know what your child likes, don't be afraid to send in whatever works for you. We have children who bring in hommus and vege sticks, cheese and crackers, roast lamb and veges, thermos with chicken and pasta, rice crackers, snow peas, muffins, pretzels, berries and everything in between. We encourage healthy eating and a balanced diet and request to please not send in chocolates or lollies. Due to some students experiencing severe allergies we ask you NOT to send in peanut butter, nuts or nut products.

Our school is a Crunch & Sip school. Crunch&Sip is a time (10am) for students throughout our school to eat vegetables and fruit and drink water. Students bring fresh vegetables and/or fruit and a water bottle to school each day for the Crunch&Sip break. Giving students the chance to re-fuel with fruit or vegetables helps to improve physical and mental performance and concentration in the classroom, as well as promoting long term health.

Yes! We have a wonderful canteen called Bengello Bites. It is run by our P & C and manned by volunteers from within our school community. It is currently opened two days per week (Thursday and Friday) for lunch orders and snacks.

The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment is a state-wide assessment that helps teachers identify the literacy and numeracy skills which your child brings with them at the beginning of Kindergarten. It helps teachers understand a student’s literacy and numeracy knowledge upon entry to school.

The assessment does not require students to prepare or study, so don’t be concerned if your child can’t answer all the questions. The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment provides teachers with information so they can plan effective teaching and learning programs.

The Best Start Assessment will be conducted during a one-to-one appointment with one of the Kindergarten teachers on either Tuesday the 2nd or Wednesday the 3rd of February 2022. You will be notified of your child's time via a letter during the January school holidays. Your child will not attend school on either of these days except for their appointment time.

Yes. It is expected that your child is fully toilet trained prior to starting Kindergarten. Our school has neither staff ratios nor supervised facilities to be toileting your child and this is part of their expected independence upon starting school.

It would be great for you to take your child to a public toilet on a few occasions before starting school to get used to different styles of toilets, different types of toilet paper dispensers, communal sinks and be exposed to urinals.

Of course at school there may be the odd accident when your child is engaged in an activity and does not make it to the toilet in time. It's important to prepare your child for this by letting them know that this happens from time to time and it's OK. Please pack a spare pair of underpants and shorts in a section of your child's bag just in case this happens.

Broulee Public School believes in fostering a strong partnership between home and school. It is important that communication is transparent and open between both parties. Upon being informed of any specific needs that your child may have, our school Learning Support Co-ordinator will be in touch to talk them through and liaise in regards to the most effective ways to ease their transition to school. This could be anything from a little anxiety about catching the school bus to more complex diagnosed conditions. Please be sure to communicate with us so that we can help to make your child's transition to school as smooth as possible.

If your child arrives at school late or needs to leave early, you will need to go into the front office to sign your child in/out. These are recorded as partial absences on the class roll and should only occur under exceptional circumstances.

Yes! Assemblies are held weekly, on Thursday afternoons. This is a time to acknowledge award winners, share information and celebrate and showcase students and their achievements. Notification of which class is running the assembly can be found in our weekly newsletter, the Broulee Scoop.
