Single variable data analysis

Overview

During these lessons students will revise how to calculate mean, median, mode and range. They will learn how to calculate quartiles, interquartile range and standard deviation. 

Students will:

• use and interpret the terminology of mean, median, mode and range.

• use and interpret the terminology of quartiles, interquartile range, five number summary, outliers and standard deviation.

• calculate the upper and lower extremes, median, and upper and lower quartiles i.e., ‘a five number summary’.

• calculate the standard deviation.

Outcomes:

• MA5.2-15SP uses quartiles and box plots to compare sets of data and evaluates sources of data
