As we come to the end of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy, productive and rewarding term at Ryde Public School.
This term has been filled with rich learning experiences, outstanding achievements and memorable opportunities for our students across academic, sporting, creative and extracurricular pursuits. I continue to be immensely proud of the enthusiasm, resilience and dedication shown by our students in all areas of school life.
Our classrooms have been vibrant spaces of learning. Across all stages, students have engaged deeply in meaningful learning experiences from Kindergarten students building confidence through dance and performance, to Stage 2 students exploring science through inquiry and design, and Stage 3 students developing creativity and expression through their study of poetry. Our Diverse Learners have also enjoyed a highly engaging term, learning through history, art and practical cooking experiences.
We have seen wonderful growth in literacy and language learning across the school. Our EAL/D program has continued to strengthen connections with families and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our community. Events such as Refugee Week provided meaningful opportunities for students and families to share stories, build empathy and strengthen our sense of belonging. Our library has continued to foster a love of reading, with new books, the Premier’s Reading Challenge and National Simultaneous Storytime inspiring many students to engage deeply with literature.
Term 2 has also showcased the extraordinary talents of our students beyond the classroom. Our choirs, dance groups, visual arts students, debating teams, bands and clubs have demonstrated commitment, discipline and teamwork. We are especially proud of our Senior Band for their outstanding success at the Hills Band Festival, where they achieved both a Gold Award and the trophy for Most Entertaining Band. Our dance groups also represented the school with pride at Sydney North performances, while our debating teams showed impressive growth in confidence and critical thinking.
Student voice and leadership have continued to flourish. The Inspire Magazine team and Ryde Radar reporters gained invaluable real-world insights during their excursion to Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), while our SRC continued their important work in supporting student initiatives and fostering a positive school culture. Our student leaders have done an exceptional job representing the school and contributing to community events throughout the term.
We also celebrate the achievements of students who represented our school and region in sport and academic competitions. From Cross Country and Maths Olympiad to Basketball, Golf and Hockey at Sydney North and state level, our students demonstrated perseverance, sportsmanship and excellence. These opportunities highlight not only talent, but also the character and determination of our students.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff. The quality of teaching, care and opportunities provided to students each day is a reflection of their professionalism, passion and commitment. A special acknowledgement must go to the staff who attended the Stage 3 camp over three days. School camps require significant personal sacrifice, and these staff members willingly gave up valuable time with their own families so that our students could enjoy such a memorable and enriching experience. Their leadership, care and commitment ensured that students felt safe, supported and challenged to grow. We are deeply grateful for their generosity and service to our school community.
I would also like to thank our parents and carers for your ongoing support. Your partnership with the school plays a vital role in helping our students thrive. Whether supporting learning at home, volunteering at school events or encouraging your children each day, your contribution is greatly appreciated.
As Term 2 comes to a close, I hope all students, staff and families enjoy a well-earned break. The holiday period is an important time to rest, recharge and spend quality time with loved ones. I wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and I look forward to welcoming you back refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning in Term 3.
