OnStage Performance

The brief: Working as a team, design, build and program a robot or robots to perform in the form of a dance in time with the beat of the music, or a theatrical presentation that complements the music.

The Official 2021 RCJA Novice and Experienced Performance marking Rubrics will be used to score the performances. Programs will be used to help score teams.

Novice Marking Rubric - Performance Only


RoboCup Junior OnStage Performance challenges teams of students to design, build and program a robot or robots to perform to music. This performance can be in the form of a dance in time with the beat of the music or a theatrical presentation that complements the music.

There will be one division this year. The Novice Marking Rubric will be used.

Quick Rules Guidelines

  • Up to 5 group members

  • 1-2 min performance to music

  • The stage will be a 2.0m x 2.0m firm, flat, square surface. Any tape may be used as the edging as long as the edge is part of the 2m by 2m area. Only novice may use a mat with markings for the robots to interact with.

  • Use of sensors and interaction between robot and other non-robot components will score points

  • Music must be appropriate with clean lyrics

  • All props must fit clearly within the boundary of the stage. There are to be no props outside the boundary.

  • All work must be original work completed by the students only

Student Groups are to submit

  • A video of the performance. The video should not run for more than 3 min. Students should include three aspects in the video:

  1. Up to 1 min student talk. Students may introduce themselves and highlight key points about the robot/s or performance they would like the viewers to watch out for. This includes technical aspects of the programming.

  2. 1-2 minute performance

  3. Screenshots of some parts of the programs students would like to highlight
