Work Experience
at QHS
To complete any work experience year 9-12 students must have completed the mandatory training. This is completed in Careers lessons. The certificate must then be emailed to your Careers Teacher.

Year 10 Work Experience
Term 4 Weeks 6 and 7

Is there anything I can't Do? YES
Dangerous, high-risk or unsuitable workplace learning is not allowed.
Prohibited activities include:
where asbestos is present
high-risk construction work, working on or in a roof, demolition work, tunnels and excavation
air travel on a helicopter or other aircraft – except those providing a regular public transport service like a regular route for paying passengers
travelling more than 12 nautical miles out to sea
those requiring a permit or licence, unless the student already holds the permit or licence, such as forklift driving
scuba and deep-sea diving
any work of a sexual or explicit nature
the service of alcohol if the student is under 18. If the student is over 18, alcohol service must be essential to the workplace learning and agreed to by the school or external vocational education and training (EVET) provider. Students must hold a Responsible Service of Alcohol

CAN I DO WORK EXPERIENCE AWAY FROM HOME?
Accommodation away from home
The principal must approve any workplace learning involving accommodation away from home. Before approval is given, the following are considered:
educational value of the workplace learning
suitability of the proposed transport, accommodation and overnight supervision arrangements
parent or carer's approval.
The school or external vocational and education and training (EVET) provider must discuss arrangements with the student and parents or carers and confirm supervision and emergency contact arrangements. Both the 'Student Placement Record' and 'Workplace learning – accommodation away from home' forms must be completed and submitted to the school.
The duty of a school or EVET provider to care for students extends beyond the work day of the placement, particularly where accommodation is away from home. This duty cannot be delegated by the school or EVET provider.
The school or EVET provider must take reasonable care to keep all students in placement away from home free from harm and minimise the risks so far as is reasonably practicable.
Child protection
Any persons, other than family members, supervising students overnight must complete the following Working With Children Check documents:
