This website has been specifically designed with upper primary school students (10-12 year olds), their teachers and parents in mind. Its purpose is to explain what a digital footprint is, why having one is not scary, and how you can make sure your own digital footprint is a positive one. According to Buchannan, Southgate and Smith (2019), parents and teachers both recognise that the last 2 years of primary school is an excellent time to be teaching students about their online presence so they can be prepared for high school and their expanding digital life.
According to research conducted by Common Sense Media (2019), 8-12 year old kids spend almost 5 hours a day looking at a screen, and 13-18 year olds are closer to 7.5 hours per day. Adults wanting to read the full report can access it here.
With all that time spent online, it is important to understand how this impacts you and what it means for your digital footprint. Adults can head over to the Teachers and Parents page for more detailed information.
