In Term 1, Year 8 learnt about scale and proportion by using traditional realistic pencil drawing techniques, along with using the Elements of Art to create realistic portraits. Students used fractions to break up the measurements of the face to create guidelines and then used observation to create a realistic portrait drawing of a person who is inspirational to them which included celebrities and family members.

In Term 2, Amid Covid19 Lockdown, interconnected with HSIE Year 8 explored artists and how they are regenerating ecosystems and creating awareness of ecological issues and the potential impact on those communities. Within Visual Arts students focused regenerating the Great Barrier Reef and creating awareness about the fragile ecosystems.

In Term 4, Year 8 worked on a project interconnected with English, exploring Cultural Stories. These Cultural Totem Sticks, initially inspired by Aboriginal Art and the art conventions used to tell their cultural stories, that of using objects collected from nature to paint on using repetitive lines, patterns and shapes. Students collected the sticks from around the school and they incorporated their own cultural symbols, colours and patterns to convey their story. The cultural totem sticks come together as a collaboration representing the diversity of Plumpton High School.
