Last week marked the end of an era for our P&C. To Louise Anthony, Daphne Salabogi, Joanne Ghookasian, Chada Zoabi & Hayet Bazzi words cannot express how grateful we are to have had such a long serving executive lead our P&C. Louise and Chada first joined our executive in 2016, Daphne in 2018 and Hayet and Joanne in 2018. Your dedication and leadership has enabled our students to enjoy a much richer experience at school. PNPS School Mufti Day
To help make the P&Cs Easter Hamper raffle fundraiser a success and in support of the Easter Raffle, all students are invited to wear mufti to school on Monday 25th of March 2024.
We are asking all children who wear mufti to donate Easter treats for example Easter eggs, Easter bunnies and baskets.
Any donations can be dropped off to the school office in the morning.

PNPS Easter Hat Parade
The Panania North Easter celebrations will commence at 9.30am on Thursday 28 March.
Easter is fast approaching and once again Panania North Public School will be hosting an Easter celebration. The day will include parades, raffles and Eggshibition. All students will be participating and will be required to make an ‘egg’ themed project at home for the day.
Below is an outline of what each year group will need to complete for the day accompanied with some photo examples.
Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 – Easter Hat/Bonnet Parade
Students decorate a hat with an Easter theme using any craft materials.
Year 3 and 4 – Egg-Sandwich Board Parade
Students are to create an Egg-Sandwich Board. This can be done by using two pieces of cardboard in the shape of an egg. Students decorate eggs in whatever theme they choose.
Year 5 and 6 – Eggshibition
Students use a blown out, foam or hardboiled egg to create a model/diorama. The Eggshibition will be on display in the school hall.
All completed Eggshibition projects will need to be brought into the hall on the day of the Easter celebrations before school on Thursday 28 March.
Please come and join in on the celebrations!
P&C Easter Hamper Volunteers
PNPS P&C requires volunteers on Wednesday, March 27th to help pack our amazing Easter hampers for the Easter Raffle.
They will be meeting in the school hall at 9.15am
Please let the P&C team know if you are available to help via email on pnpspc@gmail.com
Term 2 Staffing Update
Miss Juanita Halls has made the very difficult decision to move to Perth at the beginning of Term 2. Miss Halls is a highly valued member of our staff and I know very much loved by our community. She will be greatly missed but we wish her an amazing new adventure in Western Australia.
Mr Liam Yabsley will be on paternity leave for Weeks 10-11, this term. Miss Melissa Dimeo will be teaching the Yeti’s during this period and will then take the Hobbits for the remainder of 2024.
PNPS Sun Safety Policy
Please help us by ensuring your child brings their hat to school everyday!
RATIONALE
Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world.
Skin damage, including skin cancer, is the result of cumulative exposure to the sun. Much of the damage occurs during childhood and adolescence. Research suggests that severe sunburn is a contributor to skin cancer and other forms of skin damage such as wrinkles, sunspots, blemishes and premature aging. Most skin damage and skin cancer is therefore preventable.
Panania North Public School can help reduce the incidence of skin cancer and the number of related deaths by encouraging all members of the school community to take effective skin protection measures.
AIMS
The aims of the Sun Safety Policy at Panania North Public School are to promote among students, staff and parents:
Positive attitudes towards skin protection
Lifestyle practices which can reduce the incidence of skin cancer and the number of related deaths
Awareness of the need for environmental changes which will reduce the level of exposure to the sun
Personal responsibility for and decision-making about skin protection.
IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES FOR SKIN PROTECTION
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all students attending Panania North Public School are protected throughout the year from the harmful effects of the sun. A particular emphasis on implementation will be placed in Terms 1 and 4. The following strategies will be implemented:
Students will wear hats whenever they are outside such as before school, during recess, lunch, sport, excursions and sports carnivals.
Students who do not have their hats with them will play in shady areas in the playground. A “No Hat- Play in the Shade” strategy will be implemented.
Students will be encouraged to apply a SPF 30+ sunscreen.
Outdoor activities will be held in areas of shade whenever possible.
Teachers will endeavour to schedule outdoor activities before 11am and after 2pm where possible.
Staff and parents will be encouraged to act as role models by practising skin safe behaviour but it must be remembered that this policy is designed specifically for student protection.
Incorporate information sessions and programs on skin cancer prevention in PD/H/PE lessons
Ensure Sun Safety when students participate in PSSA and other sport programs
Inform parents/carers of the Sun Safety Policy
EVALUATION
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Sun Safety Policy through:
General observation of skin protective behaviour of school community
Random surveys of hat use in playground
Evaluate classroom activities involving skin cancer prevention
Evaluate school resources
Review policy every three years.

Literacy Learning at Panania North
Phonological and phonemic awareness
Phonological and phonemic awareness are critical skills for all students’ literacy development and a predictor of later reading and spelling success. Phonological awareness refers to oral language and is the understanding of the different ways that language can be broken down into smaller parts.
Phonological awareness consists of five subskills beginning with word, syllable, onset/rime awareness, moving to the more complex subskills of basic and advanced phonemic awareness.
Phonological and phonemic awareness are explicitly taught daily in K-2 and where needed in grades 3-6.
Voluntary Contributions
2024 teaching and learning resources are fully funded by the school. At Panania North we believe and are committed to ensuring:
all students have access to the total school curriculum
no student be denied the opportunity to meet syllabus requirements because of the non-payment of school fees or voluntary school contributions
no parent feels overstretched in any way to contribute to additional resourcing
that no student or family suffers discrimination or embarrassment regarding school fees or voluntary school contributions and maintain confidentiality in dealing with these matters.
We would greatly appreciate you continuing to give the voluntary contribution to support us in providing extra resources that will enhance your child’s learning and experience at Panania North PS.
Voluntary school contribution
For single child $40
For family (more than 1 child) $65
Kindergarten - Dragons
Hello everyone, my name is Mrs Nicholas and I am the kindergarten teacher for the Dragons. I am new this year to Panania North Public and I am feeling very lucky to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive school!
This week in mathematics, our kindergarten students are learning about patterns. Students are repeating arrangements of numbers, shapes, colours, movement and sound. Learning how to recognise, identify, continue and even create patterns will help the children form the basis of early mathematical thinking. Understanding patterns will help our kindy students develop their reasoning skills, make predictions and logical connections.
Our students have especially been enjoying creating their own patterns and sharing them with the class.
Harmony Day at PNPS
Harmony Day is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism and the successful integration of migrants into our community.
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
On Thursday 21st March, Panania North celebrated Harmony Day.
The school was decorated with belonging posters and orange balloons, the official colour of Harmony Day.
The students wore a range of orange clothing and accessories including items that displayed their country of origin to show recognition to this important day.
Students explored this years concept of "Everyone Belongs" by listening to books, participating in discussion, creating art and decorating pictures that represent the different connections and meaning of Harmony Day.
Check out our pictures below!
PNPS Art Club
Our Year 3-6 students have been coming and joining Mrs Gibbs and Miss Jordan at the art club on Thursdays at recess time. The talented students who joined this week drew some amazing cupcakes. We will be creating different artwork each week. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
